Ever feel uneasy about living in south Florida and just watching (or even being blind to) the destruction of that amazing and very unique natural area in our backyards - the Everglades? Have you considered the possibility that it can and just might be fully developed and destroyed? If we don't defend this natural, national, global treasure, who will? Do you really believe that the state/federal Everglades Restoration initiative truly aims to restore the everglades to its natural state?

Our governor and other "leaders" are happy to be seen cutting ribbons at everglades preservation initiatives but then go back to their offices and push development deals on those same lands they profess to preserve. Remember Scripps and the accompanying Biotech City that was to be created adjacent to one of the largest wildlife areas left in Palm Beach County? Now there's a plan to put a 2400 megaWatt natural gas burning power plant right down the road from the proposed Scripps site - pushing the county's western development border and opening up the Everglades Agricultural Area to the development of up to 466,000 new homes!

Well in that same area a few months ago a couple hundred radical environmentalist got together to hoop and holler at the Earth First! Organizers' Conference and Winter Rendezvous. What happened to that all that fire and energy? Did it dissipate? Or was it just incubating? Is it possible that there are a few people down here who believe in no compromise in defense of mother earth?

Now that we're starting to come out of summer, when people are travelling or just too hot to start anything big, maybe it's time to regroup. Literally. We would like to invite people for a reforming of an Earth First! collective in south florida via an organizational meeting next Sunday September 10th.

Things we could talk about:
The Proposed Power Plant on State Road 80
Scripps & Biotechnology
Everglades Restoration & water managment
Beach dredging & filling AKA beach "renourishment"

I'd especially like to hear from the broward earth first movement and any other groups organizing around the state.

If you are interested in being a part of this movement or coming to the meeting on September 10th, please get in touch.
