These polls are stupid but I think this one is relevant.
The question is: Do you agree with President Bush when he likens Islamic fundamentalism with the struggle against Nazis and communists?
When I voted. 41% said yes!

Oh, duh I forgot the link. Sorry. It's an MSNBC poll, not that I'm a fan, just found it humorous.

Ah, the gradual, but morbidly entertaining, process of rewriting history.

Since the fights against communism and Nazism cant be compared, no modern war can be compared to both of them in the same fashion.

This coming from a guy (Bush) that supports the senseless bombing of innocent civilians in Lebanon
No surprise that an imperialist would use threats from the past and historical events to justify a conflict against his self-created enemies
Funny how he "forgets" the role that "commies" played in defeating the Nazis

Hm. Well, erm...look on the bright side, maybe? Around 50% of the people on that poll have a working brain. So we're not totally doomed yet. *nods*

Great point. I say the Russians defeated the Germans. Period. We just got in it because Hitler threatened to invade the United States.

Well actually these are horribly inaccurate polls. I just thought the question was mildly humorous. They even note they're not scientific. :)

one might even argue that without the ussr pushing the nazi's back D-Day might never have happened.
the only reason why the allieds decided to hurry up was because they feared the sovjets would be "liberating" all of continental europe.

Hmm, who was it again that did most of the fighting against the axis powers during WW2? Oh yeah, it was the Soviets and Chinese. Bush and his propoganda cant even stand up to even the least educated historian.

Last time I checked, Japan was on the list of Axis powers.
It's clear that the Soviet Union and China were responsible for the defeat of the fascist forces.
The U.S. had 80% of its resources (personnel and equipment) directed at fighting Germany, while Germany used only 20% against America.
Although China played a major part in the war, I think the American Empire was more responsible for the defeat of the Japanese Empire.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, I was just curious

It was always my understanding that the USSR and America went through China rather than the Chinese themselves offering resistance to Japanese Imperialism. Especially as China was at the time deeply divided between the Coms and Nats.
Any articles or Wikis relating to this topic?

There were instances of Mao's forces and the Nationalist forces working together in resistance againt the Japanese during this time.

And pretty soon they broke into internecine fighting again...
I think it's silly to try and compare the damage inflicted on the Axis powers by China to that of the USSR or even the USA
But this is way offtopic

Is the police brutality and state censorship of communists war?

Islamism is indeed the "new communism". While obviously very different ideologically, they both serve the same purpose for America. That is the purpose of keeping the American war machine rolling. It was the threat of the Red invasion which allowed the US to spend billions on defense, and now the same thing is happening with the "War on Terror.

LOL, of course not.
To salvage this thread: I'm an Atheist, yet I used to be offended by "Islamophobia." However, I had a 4-hour conversation about Islam with a Muslim about a week ago, and I've come to the conclusion that Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Fundamentalism are all virtually indistinguishable.
Terrorism must be dealt with, of course, but it has more to do with the poor economic conditions and belligerent American foreign policy than Islam. Also, to clarify: Bush doesn't slander Islam. On several occasions, he's said, for example, "Islam is a noble faith." His grassroots supporters, such as Ann Coulter, are undoubtedly bigoted, but he is not or at least it isn't expressed publicly.

Agreed - with the USSR it was always the next soviet leader in line that was criticized to death, and so far as we have seen in the US, once one enemy demi-god leader is burned by our holy-crusading-ultra-US-patriotic-military, a new one pops up!
Osama, Saddam, Zalqarwi, then these HEzbollah guys now and these Al Quade 2nd in commands, etc..
