Does anyone know what our good friend Jello is up to right now?
Ethier way, if you like listening to old-school punk- this should be your band.

I'm not sure, although I know some elitist punk assholes kicked his ass at the Gilman not to long ago. I hate that place, the punks there turned a great place into a shithole with their holier than thou attitudes.

Last I heard, going on tour for spoken word & then there was that Jello/Melvins release. Plus he runs Alternative Tentacles (http://www.alternativetentacles.com) of course. ;)
I love Jello Biafra. :)

And what the hell is this "Gilman" place? Like the Roxy in the UK? Or more like a place like ABC No Rio?
I know this has been covered before, but its never been solidified in my brains, but anyone have a cohesive idea of Jello's politics? I was just having a convo with a friend, and they were pushing that Jello was more anarchistic, at least "back in the day". His arguement included that the Dead Kennedy's were interviewed in the 80's on a documentary called "Anarchism in America".
However, I do believe he stood as a greens candidate in the last US election.
Anyone know more on the issue?

Gilman is like ABC No Rio for California. There's a book on the place that Maximum Rocknroll is putting out now. ;)
From what I understand Jello is an anarchist though he contends basically that we're not ready for anarchism. He supports a lot of leftist groups and he did run with the Greens though I don't think he ever called himself a Green. :)

Gilman sounds cool then. But maybe a bit harsh to 'ol Jello.
You could be right about jello, but there's one other thing there grinds me: he has this quote "I'm not a dangerous man like the members of CRASS"
I'm don't question his politics because I'm a CRASS fan, but rather the implications politically of a such a statement given the political weight of CRASS in the UK in the 80's etc.
I still like Jello though :)

I had a shitty time there when I went. The place is awesome, it's the asses that hang around and fuck with people cuz they havn't had their crank fix or something that are the problem. I'm a woman, I don't fight men and I don't appreciate it when they get in my face just because I'm not a regular at their establishment. <_<

Oh, and I think he might have ran as a joke because some a bunch of people started a campaign to write in his name for president.

He didn't run as a joke. In 2000, he was nominated by the Green Party of New York for President. Nader won the nomination at the convention. I don't know why he hasn't been nominated since then; I hope somehow he is in the next election. I saw something about a new spoken word album coming out this year (a title with "Official Treason" in it... ), but I haven't seen anything "official" about it.

Comrade Jello -- born in Boulder, Colorado -- speaks on the pressing issue of the day: the murder of fellow Boulder resident, JonBenet Ramsey.
"Now, after this delusional guy made his confession in order to escape being sent to a Thai prison, JonBenét is back in the news," Biafra says. "The whole thing is a huge, uniquely Boulder-ish tragedy. Had JonBenét lived, she might well be plaguing us as the next Britney Spears right now. So a major cultural catastrophe has been avoided."
Hee-hee.

Hmm,that's odd. But he IS. During the Frankenchrist trial for instance he had his broken in by the police while he had to sit there in his robe while they went through his possessions and his phone book, etc. Surely, he is a dangerous man. :)

Oh, yes. It's a good CD. I think I still have it on mp3s somewhere around here. I could send it to ya. :)
From: http://www.alternativetentacles.com/produc...YXBmV9otmWw3ciM (http://www.alternativetentacles.com/product.php?product=843&sd=QiY7YXBmV9otmWw3ciM)
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? What happens when the most controversial Punk Rock vocalist/activist on earth teams up with the heaviest band of our time? What happens when Jello Biafra and the Melvins put their collective heads together and do an album?
"Never Breathe What you Can't See" is what happens! A musical monster of massive proportions is born, bristling with Jello's manic energy and anchored by the sheer heft of the Melvins' collective heaviness. With both camps flexing their musical prowess, the result is something that retains the signature qualities of both artists and yet sounds refreshingly unlike anything that either has recorded in the past.
If the tag team of Jello Biafra and the Melvins wasn't enough, there's guests from Tool, Phantom Limbs, Fleshies, Frisk, Spitboy, Malnourished, and Gag Order as well!
This was actually in 2004. I said recent, it's fairly recent. :) He also collaborated with the Melvins on Sieg Howdy! in 2005 but it's not as much.

I have Bedtime, Give me convenience or give me death, Mutiny on the bay, Skateboard party (it's rare), plastic surgery/in god we trust inc., fresh fruit, w/Melvins, a DK bootleg, and live at the deaf club. I can send most of these out. Fresh fruit, Jello w/Melvins, Skateboard party & the DK boot are all burned but I can still send out the Melvins collaboration if I can find it. YAY.

The best punk band to come out of the US bar none! And easily one of the best punk bands EVER!!
Just make sure your Dead Kennedys has Jello in it, they are currently touring Jello free. Don't be fooled. I don't think they've bothered to actually write any new songs though which says a lot.
All of Jello's stuff is great with DOA, Nomeansno, Mojo Nixon, Lard, Melvins. There's also a song Jello did with Chumbawamba "Homeless Hotel" done to the tune of "Heartbreak Hotel".
As for his comments about crass I can only speculate...

The Jello-less DK's have got to be bloody awful. Instead of cashing in on the name they should start a new band, write their own songs, and then go play.

I agree; they're horrible. Most of the songs of the orginal DK were written by Jello and the ones that weren't usually weren't as good (though I believe At my job on Frankenchrist is an exception).
They're jerks really. Look up the DK trial. It's silly. They "did the slag" all over Jello.
