Are there any current organizations that actually get things done? It seems to me now at days its people holding signs. Holding signs doesn't do anything! If an organization wants to become serious and wants to be effective it has to start off by doing community work and getting the trust of the community and then moving on to bigger and better things. Why should people listen to you? Why should they take the time and listen to whatever it is that you have to say? What sets you apart from the other youth out there with your radical ideals? NOTHING. If you do not act and show that you are different then your signs and your chanting wont get shit done. Please inform me of an organization in the NY/NJ area which is actually getting things done.

It's great to see people with a bit of sense! If you want to get involved in direct action, things like breaking into military bases to sabotage military equipment, occupy buildings, blockade roads etc, then I would advise staying well away from groups like the RCP, SP, any political party really. They not only don't perform these actions, but speak out against them, instead preferring the reformist option.

However, even the radical direct action movements, are struggling to actually get things done (in the UK at least) but there are organisations that think along these lines, You might want to get in touch with RAAN (http://raan.fightcapitalism.net/www.redanarchist.org/), ABCF (http://www.anarchistblackcross.org/), or the Anarchist Resistance (http://www.anarchistresistance.org/) ...or somethign else, im not too familier with groups in the US, but there is a thread pinned at the top of this forum with appropriate links, even some regional to NY. hope this helps mate :)

The ABCF only deals with prisoner support and is really only a couple of collectives, anyway. If you're into what they're doing you're much better just starting your own autonomous black cross group and hooking up with the looser anarchist black cross network.

"Anarchist Resistance" is only one in a long string of failed attempts to get some type of broad-issue revolutionary group going in Washington, DC. It definitely does not exist outside of that city and actually I'm pretty sure it doesn't really exist at all anymore (I'm surprised that website is still up).

Only RAAN really measures up to what you're asking about (actually getting things done). We have a pretty big crew in South NJ and a smaller one in Philly that you can get in touch with - [email protected]

Also if you look in the events and propaganda forum there is a thread in there about RAAN events in Oakland CA where somebody was asking about our activity in the NYC area. You might want to look there and see about getting in touch with somebody and then maybe you all can work something out. There are at least 3-4 people in the NYC region who are down for RAAN but they have not as of yet gotten organized or pulled any actions that I am aware of.

Every group is going to come in this thread and say they do things, I believe the issue was brought up about the communist league, and we showed that we actually do get things done, and do most of our political work in the real world, as opposed to just posting online

fyi www.communistleague.org take from it what you will

TheIndusrial Workers of the World (http://www.iww.org/) are currently involved in a few heated organising drives in NYC.

Also NEFAC (http://www.nefac.net) has a small branch in NYC, they are mostly older union militants but there is a small group of younger members who have joined recently who would be more accessible for someone getting involved for the first time. They are part of the New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists (http://www.nymaa.org/) which I think is quite large.
