Despite everything we have overcome in the past, there remain a number of people, problems, and policies that continue to plague our collective progress as a society. While we have had our fair share of triumphs and victories, we must come to realize the majority of society today is still being oppressed and exploited. There are still thousands of corrupt cops who continue to misuse their power and authority, millions of workers mentally and financially abused by corrupt corporations, and a countless number of men, women, and children who are without the food, clothing, and shelter needed to stay alive.

While certain people and their organizations have made it appear as if there have been tremendous improvements within our society, the fact is racism still pollutes our minds, politicians still dominate our lives, and ignorance still rules the day. Although we have advanced as a society in some areas, we have yet to overcome our greatest obstacles, as many of the problems that existed decades ago, still exist today, with the only real difference being they have simply changed their form.

The answer to that is fairly simple, I think. Stereotyping Arabs as terrorists works fairly well for racists. You raise terrorism hysteria in people to manipulate them, but you still need them calm enough to continue the wage-slavery-to-fuel-consumerism cycle.

This is aided by picking on one easily identified ethnic group. The drones can continue the status quo undisturbed as long as nobody is olive-skinned or covering their head in a wrap.

On the other hand, if the terrorists are white, and people start racially profiling it will be a panic. The USA's population is two-thirds Caucasion. White people are everywhere--there is nowhere to run. Besides, it creates dissonance for most Americans to say the terrorists are white and supposedly Christian. Then, 70% of America would stand up and say, "Hey, I did not commit a crime and you are treating me like a criminal!"

We had a terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City in 1995 (I think). The bombers were white supremacists and ex-military. Rather than declaring a war on terror against the weapon-hoarding, Aryan Nation-like compounds in Montana and Idaho, the media moved to make the bombers out to be an isolated incident.

Unfortunately, people really see it like that. One of my friends came up to visit me at school last semester, and when this white girl (jewish upper-class sorority girl) saw his car, she says to her friend ”he must have stolen it”. When I asked her why she would say that, she claimed "because that’s what blacks from that area do." Apparently according to her logic, if you’re black and from an area with a high crime rate, you're a criminal. She also insisted she was by no means racist.



No doubt Marxist in Nebraska. You summed it up nicely. I also always found it interesting how the Oklahoma bombing was an isolated incident. As if the country is not flooded with people who fit the same exact description as McVeigh. But that all goes back to what you were saying about the hypocrisy of our government and how our economy is maintained.
