Ministry of Injustice snubs Irish political prisoner - again!
Posted on August 23, 2006 at 08:15:50 AM by

The Irish Ministry of Injustice has once again refused an application for
repatriation to an Irish prison by Irish political prisoner Noel Maguire -
currently serving his sentence at HMP Full Sutton.

In a letter to Noel - signed by the Minister Michael McDowell - Noel's
application is turned down once again on the grounds he has 'no close
relatives' living in the 26 Counties. This is blatantly untrue. Noel's
wife and their two children in fact live within an hours drive of
Portlaoise Prison in Co Laois and are willing to visit him should he be
repatriated. He also has two sisters and a brother in Ireland. We are at a
loss as to why he is being victimised.

There are still six Irish political prisoners serving their sentences in
British jails. All have been cleared for repatriation - except Noel
Maguire.

Last October Noel was attacked by two (non-political) prisoners and
received knife wounds to his arms and hands. His attackers have now been
charged with attempted murder and their trial is in the offing.

Noel has sent us a copy of the letter he received from Michael McDowell
TD, and we have asked for a meeting with embassy officials to discuss
Noel's case. We have also discussed his case with the Irish Commission for
Prisoners Overseas (ICPO.

We believe Noel has the right to repatriation to an Irish prison. We
believe his life is in danger if he remains in Britain after all the
others have been repatriated to Portlaoise.

Noel can be contacted at Full Sutton Prison. Cards and letters are much
appreciated.
