if your idea involves taxing the hell out of middle and working class people and then putting that money into inefficient, state-run medical enterprises that would probably deliver sub-standard healthcare anyway...then no, I don't think that'd be a good idea.

They are still better than the even more inefficient privately run medical enterprises.

They should get free healthcare, of course, but it might increase taxes, it is true. However, if they were not being hounded by the authorities and so could register their income for tax then any increase in the tax burden would be reduced. Of course, that is not politically viable. Still, regardless they should get free healthcare, as should everyone else, as it is lifesaving in short and long term.

enigma2517, remember that even if the immigrants were peasants, or similar, in their home countries, they are still workers when in the First World, still proletarians. Whatever happened to class solidarity?

Yes. There should be free health care for all working class and unemployed persons. There is no such thing as an ‘illegal immigrant’. ‘Illegal immigrant’ is a term perpetuated by the populist right in order to induce a nationalist backlash by the ‘documented’ workers against the ‘undocumented’ workers.

I think this thread is possibly about the UK.

All people should be entitled to healthcare and it should be free at the point of use, that should be our demand as socialists, no group should ever be singled out and told "you dont deserve this." We live in a society where the most vulnrable and needy come under constant attack instead of being given what they need to have some sort of life.

The UN charter on human rights states that all people are entitled to adaquate healthcare. If people canot pay how is this human right to remain unbreached?
We have many human rights, try cashing them in though.

The problem is you are referring to a document (the UNCHR) that really has absolutely no legal significance to countries in our current world. they say we have these rights but no one will sign a treaty to that regards.

Should 'illegal immigrants' have free healthcare ... in a perfect world yes. should all people have free healthcare? in a perfect world yes. healthcare is a big issue in human rights .... what is the point of having the freedom of speach or assembly when you are going to die in 2 days because you can't afford to pay for a necessary surgery? what is the point of 'illegally immigrating' from a country where you were perhaps a political prisoner when you come to another country to die of an illness because you can't afford healthcare.

The powers that be have done it again, the Uk is going to sink under the flood of immigrants. This is total Bollocks. 1.6 million people unemployed, the gap between rich and poor growing and to top it all the £19 Billion paid out in bonuses for the people who create sod all. The question is not about immigration its about how easy it is for the right wing press to hoodwink the majority of the working class. The tabloids create the policies of this Labour (new Tory) government. Socialists should be looking at how to change the system and explaining to their work colleagues and friends that we are all working class and the capitalists just love to see us, looking around for some scapegoat to blame for our predicaments.
Socialists are internationalists, we are all getting screwed be we black,white brown, yellow, pink, green nationalism is just a tool for the capitalists to beat us with.
