I read the article in rolling stone about liberia today...man that is a fucked up country. I mean, kid soldiers cannibalizing their victims while tweaking on meth at age 15 and under? There are so many things wrong with that situation... I think someone needs to intervene, it just sounds like too much chaos in that country. As long as the U.S. has more support and rebuilds it more efficiently than Iraq, I think that action in Liberia might be justified once we get out of Iraq.

It's a shame that Liberia is only getting coverage now that they appealed to the U.S.A ......(Even though the U.S has had troops around there embassy for years!)
People should have been doing something a long time ago in Liberia, Zaire, Somalia, Ethiopia etc etc... before it gets to these stages...

I question the motives of a US "peacekeeping" force in Africa. I believe there are natural resources, or maybe markets for American goods that are of far greater concern to the US than any humanitarian concern. Remember the USA's lack of any response to the genocide in Rwanda.

If the USA is coming into Africa with the wrong motives, then they may not accomplish anything of merit. Look at Afghanistan... the US went in under pretexts of rooting out Al Qaeda and liberating the women from the Taliban's Islamism. I believe the true motives were to build an oil pipeline there (the puppet leader in Afghanistan, Karzai, sat on a pipeline board for a western oil company) and to extend US domination. Look at the results... Al-Qaeda is still functioning in Afghanistan and the women are still brutalized in most of the country. The only difference is the US killed thousands of Afghans in the process.

With historical precedent, it is never wise to trust any US "peacekeeping" expedition.

Peace keeping?
Why didn't they KEEP the peace to start with,
Useing equal world economics (if thats a word),
Poverty and corruption started all that mess....
Australians have just landed in the Solomons, P.M fuck face Howard, is going on like the troops are Jesus,..... He didn't mind letting the corupt elections happen a couple of years ago ..... and Rio Tinto (aust mineing comp.) are first in after the soldiers....

I don't care for details... just end the blood shed and bring stability to their society. I think it's sickening that other countries are isolated and not embracing this issue that should be a concern to all humanitarians.

Any one have any links where I can read up on this drastic situation in Liberia? Thanks.

Man Howard is the biggest shithead, did you see the Solomon's police slapping the crap out of some Solomons Islander for posessing a knife? And Howard calls it restoring law and order, whatta fucker!

No, I didn't see it,-
If it was on tonight, I watched channel nine and it wasn't on that!
But on the issue of peace keeping and Howard
I hate Howard (even more) on the fact that even after Australia helped murder the people of East Timor for over a decaide, because they were Socialist, among other reasons, and then when the U.N forced Indonesea to have a referendum and the Aussies to go in,
then Howard tried to turn it on the anti- war people during Iraq and afghanistan.....
What a **** face.....

I really don't want American soldiers to go into Liberia. It does seem like a massacre there though....
The whole situation smells fishy.

Andrey, you continue to crack me up. First, I don't support these rebels either, they ARE shelling innocent people with mortars, but in typical Andrey fashion you have dissed the rebels while ignoring the corrupt government.

These rebels aren't doing too well, but the government over there is SO much worse. This Taylor guy needs to be shot in the face.
