The internets? How about using google? Try searching for "homebrewing", I'm sure you'll get plenty of results.

I make my own vodka. I bury a potatoe in the earth for a while and come back and squeeze the vodka out.

Seriously? I must try that one! :P

My dad makes homebrew beer. Really nice stuff, you can easily buy a kit over the internet or from a homebrew store.

I made nettle and dandelion beer last year. But the gas kept building up quicker than I could release it regularly, and some of the bottles it was fermenting in ended up exploding.

i would try the internet, failing that, the library. i'm sure there will be books there like "homebrewing for beginners" or something. find out what what you need, then you can buy it from the internet or a specialist store and your ready to start making beer!!

by the way, be warned, do it in your garage or something, because it stinks :P

Actually I don't do that but I did bury some potatoes in tinfoil for 7 months and the liquid was incredibly strong.

I have a recipe of home-made walnut wine. Well, frankly, it's not wine but some kind of liqueur. It's sweet and girls like me like it a lot ;)

Boil some nettles and dandelions in a load of water. Throw it into a bucket that has a lid. Stir in a load of sugar and then sprinkle a tablespoon or two of yeast on the top. Put the lid on it and leave it.

CAUTION: MAY EXPLODE IF GAS IS NOT RELEASED AND LEAVE A STICKY MESS ALL OVER THE PLACE. WE'LL HAVE LESS OF THE DIRTY THOUGHTS TOO BTW.

All you need to make alcohol is sugar and yeast. The trick is to make it taste nice!

In the UK at least, I think making anything stronger that wine is illegal. Probably because it can be quite dangerous as it is hard to determine the strength of home make spirits.

If you bury a potatoe it grows shoots and eventually more potatoes. Sell the potatoes and then buy some vodka, cheapskates.

Indeed. If you want to make some proper beer, spirit, wine or whatever you're better off buying a kit that you can use over and over again. It will tell you how to determine alchol content and stuff. Well worth the investment.

alcohol is really cheap. unless you're good at brewing and you want to make some specialty stuff, i would reccomend just buying it. you can set up a still pretty easily and make small batches of liquor out in the woods. here in the south we make it out of corn or grain. its called "white lightning", pretty powerful stuff.

Also you can go blind if you really fuck it up, it does happen.

With wine the worst you are going to manage is to make something that tastes awful, which is bad enough in of itself :P

Surprisingly hard to make home brewed alcohol that tastes decent. Some people do seem to have a knack for it though.

Homebrew supply stores sell pot stills for "water purification" so getting equipment is'nt hard

Complete bullshit. This is only the case if you intend to sell it. For persynal consumption, how exactly can you tax something that is never purchased in the first place... However, the products you need to buy to brew are most likely taxed....

Wikipedia
In the United Kingdom one may produce an unlimited quantity of fermented beverages. They are not however permitted to distill or sell their products.

It's not hard to do that at all, in fact, there are tools to measure the Specific Gravity of the fluids which will give you a decent ABV rating.

Easiest would probably be hard cider... I have 5 gallons of it in my basement I'll be bottling in the next few weeks.

And don't use the same yeast you make bread with. It'll taste terrible.

Yeast is cheap, and most brewing stores are small, privately owned small shops, not big corporate monsters.

Anyone know if this is possible? (I'm thinking about the one without grape juice):
http://www.warpbreach.com/6/6.html

This just seems too good to be true. And what is the reason some alcohol can turn out to make people blind? Is there a possibility for that in this one?

I tried this when I was fourteen. It worked, but it's gut-rotting stuff and has a tendency to explode if the pressure isn't released regularly:

Get a plastic bottle of reasonable size and fill half full with apple juice. Add sugar, warm water and a lump of yeast. Leave in a warm place for as long as you dare; voila, stomach-ripping cider about 10% proof. Be aware you need to release the pressure every few hours otherwise it wil go BLAT all over your walls, and yeasty shit is not nice to clean off. I reccomend straining the stuff first as well.

Instead of releasing pressure, amatuer bong-makers may like to try and design a little automatic pressure release valve of their own, using a biro shaft and a BB pellet. Put a hole in the lid small enough to snuggly fit the biro. With the fat end pointing up, put the lid on an drop a BB pellet into the hole. Then the air created by the fermentation process can escape, but air cannot get in to kill the yeast. I wish I'd done that before I got covered in yeasty slop!

I've been homebrewing for a couple of years and its wonderful. You spend about three hours cooking it, let it sit for a month, and then bottle it, let it sit for a couple weeks and you've got fresh beer. It always tastes good and is pretty cheap. I'd recommend it to anyone. It has a great taste and tremendous satisfaction. It's easy to do, and doesn't take too long, just waiting. You can easily find books with hundreds of recipes. TRY IT, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!.

As far as beer, you can order kits on the net. I dunno how you would try and make harder liquors.
