Ok... I need someone to tell me I'm not bleeping mad.... in this case of course.

Whorespace (MySpace) and all it's clones are suffocating the internet. They're draining our non-profit web communities of activity and forcing those with monatary interests to conform to the uniform, clone match.
Not only this, but the mentality that it pervades. Not only does it show off this idiot mentality, but it assimilates unwitting people into it.
It acts like a spider web... People constantly say "I've got this *really informative information* on Bebo/whorespace/Yahoo, do you have an account there?". The catch being, you have to join to have access to their content. This, beginning the assimilation where you are asked to 'make friends' to look at certain things on their profile and even 'subscribe' to someone's blog to find out who the smeg they are in the first place.
I signed up for a Whorespace just to e-mail someone who signed the guest book on the AE website and left nothing but their whorespace address! Over the past week I have recieved 5 invitations to be imaginary 'friends' with people I don't know or give a shit about... and I didn't even have anything on my whorespace to begin with! Just a picture of Chavez in military uniform and an audio version of book 2 of the book of Satan (I pinched off the guys whorespace who signed the guest book).

Am I mad... or is this a virus to be destroyed!?

- I have an article, soon to be finshed up in the articles section about this. I'm calling on people to save the internet from becoming a Capitalist whore-house -

Most of my friends on myspace are either bands, people from revleft, people I know in real life, organisations or political activists. I don't add people just to add to my list of friends as if it was some sort of twisted competition to see how many myspaces you could collect.

Wouldn't it be easier to collect and share information, and network on independant sites or on web communities like Helldot.com (http://helldot.com) instead of communities that are poisoned by adverts and subliminal mind-trappings (that is the basic layout of ever Whorespace clone)?

Well, it seems that you are well known at Helldot, BlackFrancis.

I think the answer is clear--use Bebo and MySpace to spread Communist propaganda!!

Yes. I'm well known there, goddamnit! I wouldn't suggest a webcommunity as an example if I didn't know anything about it. lol

Yeah... but you're missing the point that Whorespace is the tool of the system. Like alcohol and religion, it passifies(yes, I spelt it wrong). Is this not a problem with you?

Fuck it anyway... appologise...

I have MySpace, but my only friends there are the comrade who asked me to register there, and some randoms that added me later. I also have an account on what can be described as a Dutch version of MySpace(hyves.nl) because the movement that I am in has a group on that website.

RevLeft used to have a Myspace group, but it was closed - I think because of security or something.

I deleted my myspace page. It's owned by Newscorp for one thing. I can get ass w/o it. Not only does it encourage conformity, stupidity, and commercialism but it may well be the trojan horse by the corporate conglomerates to actually destroy the 'free' internet as we know it. Read up on it. Kill your myspace accounts.

I have never actually used the websites listed except to read something that was posted on there. I thus do not have an account etc.

I agree with the thread starter that these places are problematic for leftists. They are tools of the right-wing rich and are dangerous.

But there is a reason why they are used by leftists (two actually) that I can think of.

One, they are easy to use, they enable you to have your own space on the Internet really easily. No hassles with web servers or web hosting.

Two, they are well known in the more general public, not just in the leftist community, and since everyone you know uses myspace (or whatever), so do you. It creates a community.

I only really see one solution, and it won't fix the second problem, that non-leftists use these sites. Create your own community boards. They would enable a person to have a page of information, have friends and what have you. But because you controlled the server and the software, you don't have to worry about the other crap.

You make it free, you advertise in amongst all the leftist groups and people you know; and hopefully you'll have your own online community.

Fuck Rupert and his evil schemes.
