Hello comrades.

For a while I have been intrested in collecting some notes for the purpose of writing an article in defense of Cuba, Che, and Fidel. As we know many people from the Cuban Exile Community constantly bombard fellow supporters of the left because of our beliefs. It is even more difficult when you have people like Humberto Fontova around. Lately I have been even more inspired from the responses in my other Che thread:

http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=54708

Also I have been inspired to continue this project because of this thread in the Che Forums
http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=54005, and from this thread in this very forum http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=54171 which is the truth about Cuba.

I would like people to recommend some information or to suggest ways to approach this writing project to collect some info and data along with information helping me to defend Cuba, and her heros of the revolution with proper sources, and other things needed. When the finished product is done I'll post it here in this forum. Any help concerning related topics such as the Cuban statistics on education, and healthcare, things concerning the executions Cuba, things such as the Us Embargo, and about things concerning the Cuban five, etc... Pretty much any relevent info.

Mind you this isn't really for any publication or nothing, but for me to collect a gathered defense, in comparison to the numbers of articles which constantly critizie even with questionable evidence. Thanks comrades, and I hope to hear from you.

As we know many people from the Cuban Exile Community constantly bombard fellow supporters of the left because of our beliefs.

Well they do that mostly because of reasons other than in idea - they were angry that their rich $$'s were taken away. (Landlord families, Buisness owning families, families of goverment officials and former army/police forces ,etc. Coincidence that only 1% of the population left when Castro gave the green light? Mabye, mabye not :))

I would recommend for statistics the Cuba Truth Project - http://www.freepeoplesmovement.org/cuba/ , but for others I forgot the links to -

a general good source would be wikipedia, because in their footnotes to facts they often have direct links to useful sources

If I may : defining your task as defending Casro, Che etc. is the wrong way to go: define your task as defending the progressive character of the Cuban revolution ('it was, on balance the best thing for the Cuban people') and prove that in the Marxist way, by the constructive critique of Castro.

Constructive criticism of the leaders by persons dedicated to the success of the revolution is a real contribution at this time.

The key issue might this : if Che had elements of a programme that might have led to a better outcome than occured, how could we reformulate (expand on ) the whisps of ideas that Che expressed to formulate a more effective or more nuanced strategy for the Cuban revolution in the 1960s?

How could Cuba survive the Brezhnev era without deepening the degeneration of its revolution ? (And what did it do to protect itself from Brezhnev that worked )

How, now,can it knuckle down and survive the American embargo?

Defenses of the Cuban revolution that don't at least discuss these issue will seem hollow apologias. What you prove is that Castro could have done worse and has kept open historical possibilities for the Cuban people. Can that be shown ? [Is it true ?]
