Why would any serious anti-fascist want to join Respect?

The SWP can't even make its mind up whether to keep it going or not, it is inherently liberal, was/is (?) utterly dependent on the old state spooks at Searchlight for all its intelligence, and is run by Weyman Bennet, one of the most limited "leaders" on the far left who happily smears anti-fascists with different politics to him.

Respect is a joke.

Wrong front group Paul. This is UAF. ;)

Out of interest, do the UAF still have a leading member of the Orange Order among their listed supporters?

Sorry I wrote Respect when I meant UAF.

Forgive me, but keeping up with all these SWP front groups is difficult, even for a veteran Trot watcher like myself..........

BNP is dumb and I doubt they will come to power. I am American and could care less about Britain, but what I know about BNP they are like all a bunch of closet neo-nazis who are trying to look like real politicians but failing. All I know is like half of them are criminals or something.

That would be a fairly simple way of putting it, but yea. Brushing them off as nothing is possibly the most dangerous position for us to take (not necessarily for you, as you live in the states)

The BNP are the most succesful far-right organisation in England, of the past few decades, boasting 49, or is it 48?, seats.

That's what we said about Vlaams Blok (now Vlaams Belang) for years, they're basically fascists in business suits (as they were described in 'The West Wing' once), equally worse to the BNP, and guess what...
They have 25% and rising... <_<

Do not think they have no way of seizing power, unfortunate as it is, they do.

Unfortunately, I think that the BNP has the potential to come to power. Like most fascists they prey on peoples fears, so come an economic depression (or something similar) they could very easily blame it on people of non-British nationality, and you´d be surprised by how easily some people can be swayed by that nonsensical argument! Better not to write any fascist groups off until they´re well and truly gone...

I don't think I would be very surprised. Germany 1933 anyone?

[QUOTE]

How would such a tactic be any different than what one would see from the socialists?

In a depression, they will blame the "capitalist." They will/rail against "outsourcing" (all those jobs lost so some fat cat can suck on a have bigger silver spoon).

Hell, many on this board say that such an economic upheaval is the ONLY way to expect some sort of socialist victory.

Its amazing! The socialists are worried that the BNP will take advantage of such circumstances for their benefit, the same set of circumstances the socialists will depend upon for themselves! You guys are carbon copies of each other, and don't even recognize it.
