Damn. And what the hell was that cop on about, "degrading moral standards" with his sign? And that other one trying to get the dude to turn his camera off - I think everyone should carry a video camera with them now - they obviosuly scare police

Unbiased validation of the video? I can believe it is true, but I would like proof.
If it is true, I would like the email of the individual police department.

Oh our wonderful, freedom-loving, capitalist country! Where you get arrested for writing the word 'fuck' but don't if you break international law.... <_<

Well, is there a law against anything we saw in the video? I mean, can I go around with a sign with the word "fuck" on it?

In general terms, the cops were within the law to arrest. Yes, it's a stretch of the law designed to deny his right to protest, but public vulgarity is covered under "disturbing the peace" or "disorderly conduct."
In the city in which I live, which is generally OK but the cops are a bit silly, high-schoolers regularly get ticketed for swearing at teachers.
My favorite part was "you can't video tape us!" And if you rewind it a bit, you can hear one cop say to the other "get the video tape."
So clearly these cops did not have justice or truth in mind, and were going a bit beyond "just doing their job." If they were "just doing their job", they would have confiscated the sign and written a ticket. There wasn't a need for arrest. However, in some ways the arrest was wise from the cops' perspective, namely, a (rightfully) angry group had gathered, and they wanted to get away. They can take a suspect into custody on grounds of protection of themselves or the suspect.
Odds are the kid won't be booked, they probably took him back, ticked him at the station, and released him.
Still, bigots.
The test would be to have someone at the other corner with a sign that said "Fuck Bin Laden". Or... "Fuck your chosen significant other but use protection". Though that's a lot of words to get on a sign.
