A lot of talk in the UK left is about this event. A leading CWIer told me that they are critically supporting the event. At first I was rather cynical and saw it as a SWP stunt. But there does seem to be some interest amongst the TU left towards this . I believe it is the duty of genuine Marists who are active trade unionists to have a presence.

Support grows for Organising for Fighting Unions conference
Across the country support is rolling in for the Organising for Fighting Unions conference.
According to Kate Burlsand from Barnsley UCU, “Barnsley and Wakefield UCU branches have both backed the conference, with Barnsley sending four delegates and Wakefield sending two.
“We went and addressed the South Yorkshire FBU meeting earlier this month and there was really broad support. The meeting was mostly made up of Labour Party members and all those at the meeting were really open to the conference and agreed to send delegates.
“The FBU region is backing the conference, and the chair and secretary are both coming, as are the local NUT branch. We need to keep a momentum going to build the widest possible support for the conference.”
Amongst other sponsors in the last week Oxford & District Trades Council has voted unanimously to sponsor the conference and to send eight delegates. South West No1 CWU branch and HMRC Euston Tower network PCS voted to send three delegates each to the conference.
Among the speakers at the conference are Bob Crow, general secretary RMT, Mark Serwotka, general secretary PCS, John McDonnell MP, George Galloway MP, Matt Wrack, general secretary FBU and John Hendy QC.
