I would just like to ask other members of RevLeft about the situation in Mexico.

I live in Britain and to be honest the press coverage of the election in Mexico was crap and now as the corporate media proclaim the victory of their prefered candidate from the National Action Party (PAN), the coverage of the election (as crap as it was) has now ceased.

Could anyone here post info on how things are developing in Mexico.

I know the social democratic candidate of the PRD has made clear his desire to contest the results, either via a recount of some ballots or the whole voting list.

Of course a social revolution of the working class is what is needed, not the capitalist's system of fraud and deception with their fake 'democracy'.

But given that even a social democratic movement is now too radical for the capitalist system and imperialism (the US especially) and the fraud involved in keeping the PRD out of power, the Mexican working class can see the system for what it really is.

What are the Zapatista's doing, if anything, as I have not heard about them in years.

Also, has there been any growth or development in any Mexican anarcho-communist/social revolutionary groupings that have a base in the working class and the cities, as opposed to the Zapatista base in rural and fuedal Chiapas?

If there are, what are they doing at the moment, given the possibility of civil unrest over the voting fraud, it could be the start of something very interesting in Mexico.

Marmot is from Mexico, he may be able to answer those questions the best.

The situation is alot more developed than the international press silence would lead you to believe, we'll see what happens. Let's hope obrador and the bureaucrats have to face the music of a rising tide, and lose control of the situation.

They already did, when the protestors wanted to march on the airports and shut them down.. but true to form Obrador told them not to.

Obrador and his followers (thousand strong) are camped right outside el zocalo (Mexican city plaza)
They're disrupting everything from traffic, to business, to society
According to his statements, Obrador and his followers want a recount of all the voting centers in Mexico
They're accusing the PAN and the government of voting irregularities (thrown out votes, variance in registration and actual votes, intimidation,...)
Fox and PAN candidate Felipe Calderon have denounced, and accuse Obrador and his followers of rejecting the election's outcome
The court that oversee's the election decided that only a fraction of all voting centers will have a recount
Up until now, the court and its officials have found no voting irregularities
While PRD officials and some leftist organizations that oversaw the elections claim otherwise
So as of right now, the presidency is still in jeopardy
Neither Obrador nor Calderon are giving in to demands of the other

Although I dislike the cause for which many ppl are fighting for
And like CDL said, Obrador has urged his followers not to cause disruption
I think that with all the political mobilizations, I think that the Mexican ppl are finally realizing that their election system is a complete hoax (not to mention their economic and social system)
So maybe this political consciousness will cause all the working class in Mexico (a majority of which support Obrador) to rebel against the system that does nothing for them and create a system by them and for them
