The original article, from the MLP's weekly paper, Die Rote Fahne:

All I can say is, they must have done something right to get that kind of cash.

I didn't read the article, but maybe it was a gift from a dying leftist.

Quite appropriate given their ideology.......

Actually, the money came from a retired mine worker in Germany who is still very much alive. According to the article, he's been on a number of television talk shows since making the donation, since this the largest amount of money given to any political organization in Germany ever, and has defended the MLPD's politics.

Does this make this party the most wealthy Marxist organisation in the world? (or even just Europe?)

More importantly- what will they use this money for? What sort of group is this? Is it progressive or one of those ones with Songun up its arse?

They can do like the CPUSA and waste a million on promoting a demonstration in Washington, DC.
Seriously, alot of established "Leninist" parties in the U.S. bring in tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.. obviously they're not putting it to too good of use, but I guess Bob Avakian and Jack Barnes need to live in comfort right? Don't forget the SEP, which has millionaires in its ranks.
What I want to know though, is how does a retired miner get 3.2 million dollars?

He must be a bloody good chat show guest if he earns that sort of money.
Does Jerry Springer himself get that much?

If I was reading the article right, at least some of it came from an inheritance.

God.
Although I'd rather see this mob getting the money than some ungrateful offspring or the German state, it is annoying to see money like this being pumped into a crap Stalinist cult.
No doubt they'll spend it all calling for a vote for the SPD, paying for contract killings on Trotskyists and building massive bronze statues of Uncle Joe.
Hmmm.

YKISOW strikes again! He repeats the libel written by his preferred "Stalinists", the PDS-Die Linke (y'know, the ones that the über-Trots of the IS Tendency are supporting), that the MLPD is a creature of the state -- and offers as much evidence as his speechwriters in that organization.
In the end, I think our little scab is just mad this worker didn't give his money to Hezbollah.

I ran into the MLDP during a visit to Germany once. They showed up at this community support meeting for the steelworkers in Rheinhausen. The steelworkers had been resisting, for years, the Krupp company's threats to close the mill.
I wasn't hugely impressed by their participation in the meeting - they struck me as fairly typical of ultraleft-sectarian groups. Their rep said the union bureaucracy was selling out, the usual. Then, 'cause the meeting was being held in a church, said the only choice was between the MLDP and the church. Whatever.
I spoke briefly with one of 'em after, and she seemed decent enough. It was also kinda funny how my host, who basically a left SPDer, was trying to get me not to even talk to these types because....they're sectarians. He didn't seem to get the point that was even more sectarian.
If they splurged it on TV commercials or something it probably wouldn't even amount to much money. But if they stick it in the bank, it might make 'em significantly better-financed....I've heard much of the CPUSA's budget comes from "party investments." (Probably 'cause the CPUSA was once much bigger than now.)
Anyway, kudos to Michael May for putting his money where his mouth is. Rightly or wrongly, he thinks the MLDP is helping the fight for communism....so you gotta applaud his willingness to act on that belief.

Actually I don't think he said that. You might wanna reread his post. But I'm glad to see you come out against unfounded accusations of being state agents.

You're mildly cretinous aren't you, Miles.
I'd said I'd rather see this organisation get it because they're not ungrateful offspring or the German state.
As for your quip about Hezb, the answer would be a yes. I'd love to have seen this money go to Hezbollah. More specifically because they'd have spent it rebuilding Lebanon after your friends in the IDF fucked it up.
