Yes, the upmarket office building where I work has installed motion sensors in all the toilets, so that the lights go off after 20 minutes if no one is using them. Utter stupidity. I bet one of those sensors actually costs more to install and maintain than it does in saving electricity. Just about as stupid as the actual fact that some places in Kuala Lumpur have solar-powered parking meter stations. ;)

they're creating parking metres that employ motion sensor technology to detect how long a car remains in its position. if someone leaves before their time is expired, the motion sensor detects it, and wipes the metre clean. if a car's metre expires, a red beam will illuminate the car, making it more obvious to police officials for ticketing.
