I would really like to learn more about how the government used the anthrax scare to their benefit, and, if the government could have anything to do with the anthrax scare itself.

Is there anything that supports the theory that the government or someone with government links was behind it?

I just believe it was just another propaganda so gullible Americans can have a reason to support the War in the first place.

I read in Zizek's Desert of the Real that the suspected persons were actually right-wing Christian fundamentalists. I'm sure that's the fact-jack though.

It's been almost 5 years and the security agencies still haven't gotten closer to finding any true suspects besides a bunch of "persons of interest". I think it was someone on the inside who did due to the type of anthrax that was used, etc.

But anyways, the results of this scare have been increased funding for biological weapons research and it also was a factor in the passage of the Patriot Act. So basically, this scare was good for the gov.

I thought that I had read that the particular Anthrax was traced to a military lab. That sort of gives you some idea how important the gov. thought it was to scare the public with Anthrax.

Remember the plastic and duct tape nonsense that they put out? Telling people that they should be able to wrap their houses and windows in case of biological terror. A lot of people went out and bought that crap.

The population was duped into the whole terrorism mantra, so I guess it was pretty effective for the gov. in the long run.

Yeah, the certain strain of it was developed at a Maryland lab and later sent to other labs as well.
