***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

Daly / Mc Namee Cumann call for Boycott of Israeli Goods.

West Belfast based Daly/McNamee Cumann of the IRSP have today called for the people of West Belfast to join with them in the boycotting of Israeli goods it has emerged.

IRSP spokesperson for the area, Charlie Clarke, has today called for an immediate boycott of products from Israel in response to the ongoing illegal war against the working classes of Lebanon.

"The Daly / Mc Namee cumann of the IRSP call for the immediate boycotting of Israeli products as a response to the murderous war being waged against the innocent working classes of Lebanon by the terrorist state of Israel" Mr. Clarke stated.

"We call upon all the residents and local businesses of West Belfast to join with us in this boycott of Israeli sourced products. The sickening images portrayed around the world of this illegal war and the devastation and death that this has brought to the thousands of innocent civilians of Lebanon should not go unchallenged. The decent people of West Belfast have witnessed first hand for thirty-seven years the death and destruction that these war mongering nations can bring upon a country, and should not tolerate this injustice against the Lebanese people."

He went on to add, "People must see this war for what it is. It is an American / Israeli orchestrated campaign of terror against an innocent people. The Hezbollah are a democratically elected organisation representative of the oppressed people of Lebanon with MPs and Cabinet ministers. They attacked a military target in response to the ongoing kidnappings of Palestinian citizens from their beds by the Israeli government and their military special forces. The disproportionate response from Israel in the targeting of the civilian populations of Lebanese towns and villages in relentless air raids and land assaults must be condemned without reservation. The people of West Belfast must join with us in this condemnation and show the world that we will not tolerate this state terrorism by boycotting Israeli products. The IRSP support unequivocally the working class people of Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon in their struggle against alien occupation."

I have boycotted Israel for a long time, and until they start to act decently I will continue this boycott. On my website I urge a boycott, as well.

yeah, the number of the Israeli products is 729

It means when you see a product with something like this:

l lll llllll ll lll llll llll
7 29 987 216 21

dont by it.

if you did' know what this is, its the code of the product shown at its back.

my friend is currently organising a national strike day in australia, she's gotten in touch with people in a few other countries too, so maybe we'll see a global strike action as well :D

That's a great idea! If I can help out in any way then I offer my humble services :) but I generally don't look at which country a product is produced in, I might now. What products does Israel generally export?

Besides death?

Well, that's hard to find out,

These are oz' top imports from Israel:

"telecommunications equipment ($127 million), pearls and gems ($85 million), and fertilizers ($45 million). The innovation of the early kibbutz movement has paid off in terms of enabling Israel to become a leading exporter of agricultural technology and know-how."

Not much to boycott from that selection, tech-items (mobile phones maybe? but i think its probably much bigger scale), luxury goods like pearls/gems.... and fertilizer :/

They tend to export lots of fruit & veg (that's how you can get strawberries and things in the middle of winter).
Check the packaging in supermarkets to find out if they come from Israel or some other country in that region (it's a major industry in the Middle East and Egypt).

I usually don't look at my products that closely, and I don't know how many Israeli products would be available to me on the west coast of the US, but I will look when I remember to do what I can.

I won't be buying any death, fertilizers or pearls and gems then!
As for strawberries or generally fruit and vegetables, I don't think in Australia at least that we'd import much at all. I think Australia is fairly self reliant when it comes to fruit..which is not always a good thing. Banana production was severly damaged by a cyclone and now they're incredibly expensive.
What about firms that do business with the Israeli government? Is there a list at all of them?
I don't know, I just really feel the need for more direct action when it comes to this, while marches are great and all, they are however, just way too conservative, in that the organizers try to limit or control their anger, rather than providing an outlet for it. That's my experience in Sydney at least. They're obsessed with their image in the eyes of the media, who will never be supportive.

such as coca cola
Can you explain what Coca Cola's role is at all?

That doesn't make any sense, aside from reserved prefixes, UPC codes are store-specific. There certainly aren't any "country codes" or otherwise region-specific identifiers.

Maybe where you shopt "729" is used for Israeli products (although why that could be I have no idea), but it doesn't apply to the rest of the world.

Actually the EAN (which is a superset of UPC) does reserve numbers for specific countries. Indeed the 729 prefix is reserved for Israel. The country prefixes make sure that everyone can have their share of numbers and be merry. For more information see:
