Interesting fissures are happening between the hard Right Tories and and the rest of Canada and Quebec.

Anyways, here's the story on him getting flooded with calls, letters, and emails: Full story. (http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1154901009790&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968793972154&t=TS_Home)

Regardless of phone calls, emails, etc. Harper will not end the Afghan mission. This is his chance to show Canada indeed does have a military presence. It sucks because his idea of Canada totally diminishes the 'middle-power' status and now puts us in-line with the US. It's sort've like Blair alligning himself with Bush - everyone wants to prove to the US that they can do the same military might as well.

Yeah, phone calls and emails can easily be deleted and ignored but protests and marches can not.

Those can be ignored as well...in the end, it comes down to support in the House of Commons. And until the MPs lose faith in the government, the mission will continue.

Just make sure your MPs know how you feel about it.

I seriously hate this guy. Not only is he a Conservative fuck, but he doesn't mind making Canada become a lapdog of the US. He has sent soldiers to Afghanistan as well as supports Israel against Lebanon, going so far to say that the majority of Canadians feel the same way. What a fucking tool, honestly.

So, because I heard that he has been receiving emails, letters, and phone calls criticizing his decisions, I decided to send my own. I don't know how much it will do, but it's better than doing nothing.

If you would like to drop a line to Mr. Harper and inform him of how much he sucks, email him at: [email protected]

Here's what I wrote:

I am a Canadian currently living abroad and I am shocked to hear that my country, known for its peacekeeping efforts around the world, has turned into nothing less than a lackey of the United States and a supporter of foreign wars. Why are our troops in Afghanistan? Why does the Prime Minister support the criminal Israeli attack on Lebanon?

We have no business having any military presence in Afghanistan, that is not our war. Our nation is notoriously anti-war, known for committing to mission of keeping peace in areas of conflict. We are respected for this, and now our reputation as peace loving people is being tarnished by our soldiers in Afghanistan. Please bring those men and women home, they have no reason to be in a country that has already faced years of war and occupation.

Since when do Canadians support the imperialistic destruction of other countries? I recently read in a newspaper article that Mr. Harper says he believes the majority of Canadians agree with Israel. I can tell you right now that most Canadians most definitely do not agree with the atrocities occurring in the Middle East. Israel's actions against Lebanon are disgusting and many are considered as war crimes by international law. As a Canadian, I am ashamed to think that my own government would support war crimes, I am completely shocked. How did Canada, an international beacon of peace and tolerance, suddenly become a close ally of war criminals?

Assuming that Mr. Harper wants to hold onto whatever shreds of respect he has from his fellow Canadians, he should seriously reconsider his stance on these most criminal of wars.

Thank you for your time.

No problem, that's what my job is. ;)

I would like to see more protests and marches against this PM because he cannot simply hit the delete button and expect them to go away.

Sometimes I really wished I lived back in Canada. If I did I would be in Ottawa and definitely taking part in anti-Israeli protests, bringing it to Parliament Hill even.

While I was in Toronto this summer I saw pro-Israeli demonstrators...very few though. Assholes.

Yeah I agree. I live in Toronto and read about it in the news. It's not exactly what I envisioned happening in response to the Crisis in the Middle East - but that's multiculturalism. I just hope no Palestinians were around during that march, or things could've got ugly.

I know at York University, both sides have clashed before at school. It's actually quite disturbing.

With regard to Harper, I think when it comes to international decisions, the NDP/Liberals can easily join together and dissolve parliament. But they don't want to - why? Because voter turnout will be next to nothing. If this happens, the nation would have gone to the polls 3 times in the last few years, much more than normal.

When it comes to international politics, Harper's throwing his weight around as if the Conservatives are a majority - he needs to realize that his party barely won the election and needs to understand that the Bloc, NDP and Liberals are vehemontly against his international policy agenda.

Peter McKay's gonna have a lot of explaining to do, hahaha.
