To the Iraqi Communist Party

Dear Comrades,

The American and British occupational forces have been in your country for too long. Prior to and during the invasion we stood in unwavering opposition to the Bush Administration's plans for the oppressed peoples of Iraq. We oppose the on-going occupation of Iraq and we struggle for its end.

Following the fall of the Ba'ath regime, we watched with excitement as the Iraqi Communist Party, the oldest party in Iraq, turned an office of the security police into its Baghdad office, published the first issues of "Tareeq Al-Sha’ab" and celebrated May Day in Fardus Square in the face of American soldiers and tanks.

To the many Iraqi victims of both Ba'ath and American brutality, we give our deepest regrets. The United States supported the Ba'ath regime until it no longer suited its interests and it has been the Iraqi people who have suffered. They have suffered through a decade of United Nations sanctions that have killed hundreds of thousands, mostly children and the elderly, a decade of an illegal American-British-imposed no fly zone and invasion and occupation that has killed thousands more.

Invasion has not liberated the people of Iraq, but changed their rulers from a brutal and repressive domestic regime to a right-wing plutocratic foreign regime. Liberation and democracy can only come by the people themselves and we reject the arrogance of the United State government in "installing" democracy anywhere, especially in Iraq. The United States government has aligned itself with the Iraqi National Congress and ethnic and religion-based groups in creating such a "democracy," while negating to include the revolutionary elements such as the Iraqi Communist Party. Only the people can decide their future, not the world's sole superpower.

We stand in solidarity with the Iraqi people and the Iraqi Communist Party against the illegal occupation by American and British forces. We demand the immediate withdraw of all occupational forces and the formation of an independent, secular, democratic, federal and unified Iraq.

We further call for a revolutionary democratic socialist transformation of Iraq through mass workers', farmers' and peoples' upsurge aimed at organizing a new society and new social institutions based on the people's power.

In solidarity,
Socialist Party of Michigan

What I find amusing is the fact that the US media insists on sighting all people in Iraq who are still staging guerrilla warfare - sabotaging the oil refineries and pipeline etc. as being Saddam Hussein loyalists. This is so damned lame – but the sad part about it is the fact that most of the brainwashed US citizens and also the foreign residents here are buying this propaganda hook line and sinker. This is the assumption that the media portrays for those still opposing the military backed multibillion-dollar corporate interests there. How absurd is this single-minded view? And more importantly – how absurd is the fact that most people here are believing this as the only reason anyone could possibly be opposed to being occupied by an Imperialist nation such as the US. What?.

I’m glad to see that someone in the party has stepped forward to officially offer solidarity for the cause.

But the discouraging thing is the fact that (it seems) most people (particularly here in the US) have been brainwashed to believe that Communism is synonymous with Satanism – for real. This is the only analogy I can come up with for what people here have been taught from childhood about Communism. Actually – we were never really taught what Communism was – just that it is evil and that Communist are like Devil worshippers or something just as evil. This is also absurd, and people here need to get a clue – particularly those who are being oppressed by the Corporate Conglomerates – which most working people even here are – but they can’t see the forest for the trees – they are blind sheep marching dutifully to the slaughter like good humanoid robots. And few of the people here even question the propaganda fed to them about why those living in occupied countries are resisting their oppressors violently. They are automatically Saddam loyalists – and it goes no deeper or further than that for them – cuz the media said so – so to them it must be true. What?

Too bad the Michigan Communist Party can’t start an effective revolution here in the US. This is what the whole world really needs – to kill the decease of Capitalist oppression from its source. This is the only thing that will counter the fact that the militarily backed US corporate conglomerates are currently perpetrating terror upon the working class people of the US as well as exporting their terror all over the map. This of course s nothing new – but lately it is more blatant and pronounced then in the past – from what I can see.

It needs to be stopped from its source – this is the only answer. All of these global skirmishes in places where the beast (the Militarily backed Multibillion-Dollar Corporate Conglomerate Capitalism) cannot be fought effectively or stopped completely is not gonna cut it in my eyes. Ultimately – this is what I think.
