2006 Second Annual Peace & Justice Summit
Theme: Creating a More Just Nation and Peaceful World
IUPUI, Indianapolis, Indiana

Sponsors: Student Advocates for Global Equality (IUPUI), Indiana Peace & Justice Network, the Indianapolis Peace & Justice Center, IUPUI Center for Service and Learning, the IUPUI Campus & Community Life as well as many other cooperating educational, religious, and community groups.

Tentative Program: The organizers of the 2006 summit hope to expand on last spring’s event at IUPUI when more than 400 people attended a series of workshops, lectures, art exhibits, cultural performances, and public demonstrations on the need to end the United States occupation of Iraq as well as to promote nonviolent conflict resolution and social, economic and environmental justice. The 2006 summit will strive to bring together students, community activists and concerned citizens to share ideas and work cooperatively for positive social and political change. A special feature of this summit will be an advocacy fair where non-profit advocacy organizations can recruit interns and volunteers as well as educate the public about their programs.

Indiana is a state with an abundance of academic programs and religious, community, and activist groups committed to peace and justice causes. Last year, students, staff and faculty from more than twenty Indiana colleges and universities, as well as activists from numerous organizations participated in various programs at the summit. In 2006, we hope to broaden participation throughout the state and to surrounding areas of the Midwest. Indianapolis is centrally located and the IUPUI campus has generously volunteered its facilities. We hope that this annual summit will play an important role in energizing peace and justice activists throughout the Midwest.
