Red & Anarchist Action Network Workshops
Berkley, CA - August 12th

Parkour for Commies: An Introduction to Urban Freerunning
Members of the Red & Anarchist Action Network will be presenting
a crash-course in the basics of Parkour, an art combining the
philosophy and technique of military obstacle- coursing and the
urban environment. The workshop will be presented with special
attention given to the abilities of each individual and the proper
methodology behind implementing a high-impact urban training
regimen. We will also be incorporating into the physical training
itself a discussion of the philosophy behind Parkour and its potential
as a organizing tool for the serious preparation of direct action
culture. RAAN has been investigating the potentialities of Parkour to
the communist/anarchist movement for nearly a year and has
already organized a series of workshops and affiliated PK clubs in
Boston, Philadelphia, and Venezuela.

Defining the Red & Anarchist Action Network
Since late 2002, the Red & Anarchist Action Network (RAAN) has
been constructing an alternative model of revolutionary
(dis)organization that has united anti-authoritarians from deep
ecologists to anti-state Marxists in a horizontal network consisting
entirely of autonomous affiliated action. In recent months RAAN
has begun paying more attention to the need to perpetually
rearticulate and discuss the organizational hypotheses being
proposed, as we strongly feel them to be unique in our movement.
We believe that the conditions we find ourselves in are more than
ripe for the emergence of a completely grassroots revolutionary
union based solely on mutual aid, respect, diversity of tactics, and a
no-bullshit culture that prides praxis over ideology. There is the
potential of a RAAN-affiliated presence organizing itself in the Bay
Area, and this is our chance to make this process as transparent,
autonomous, and locally-relevant as possible. This workshop will be
arranged as an informal discussion covering a series of
interpretations of the network's experience, but also geared towards
addressing people's individual concerns and interests, and proposing
RAAN as a context for that discussion.
Leninists of all stripes and other statists are strongly discouraged
from attending this meeting, as their views will not be welcome. We will
of course encourage friendly debate with all legitimately anti-authoritarian
tendencies who consider themselves to be in some way in opposition to RAAN.
