what do you call people who are either poor like you, or middle class like you and obsessed or admire capitalism. for example I go to school with this guy who works as a cashier at a dollar store. he aspires to open up his own dollar store one day and he is always discussing economics. like how the U.S. should not let China take over the U.S. markets and shit like that.

He also admires free trade and just anything that has to do with imperialism and the U.S. gaining more power. yet he is not rich, he dont even own his house or nothing. dude goes to school with me and works for shit money. what do you call these idiots?

Socially conditioned.

Sadly, he is one of many who think that the current system is the best one, and probbaly has little or no idea of about communism.

Conformist is good too, because he is afraid of being socially stigmatised or ostracised for not being a clone like everyone else.

I just call them conformists, drones works to I guess.

If he's in favour of protectionism then he already acknowledged one of the flaws of capitalism.

Calling someone conformist is usually a good way of looking like a joke.

It is more likely the workers who support capitalism purely have a poor understanding of what it is.

I would call them ignorant.

Hey, I work as a cashier in a dollar store too.

Anyways, I agree that "conformist" isn't a good term to use. Everybody is a conformist to a large extent; nobody completely rejects conforming to the traditions of the society around them. When was the last time you refused a handshake because you refuse to conform to the social norm?

Ummm, you call them the American Working Class.

I'm not sure how much contact you have with workers, but this is pretty common. Most workers in the U.S. don't turn to revolutionary politics to improve their situation, they prefer to fantasize about saving enough capital to start their own businesses. If you need to coin a derogatory term in order to describe them maybe you need to be looking at your own degree of political consciousness.

I mean, what is your point in searching for a name for these types? To put yourself above them? To show that you're a real worker?

Give me a break. Just because someone has not adopted revolutionary politics does not mean they are somehow a "lesser" worker.

not really

what RPAS is talking about is an adamant supporter for capitalism

most working class are a-political, ofcourse they are capitalist, but only because the world around them is

and yes they dream about being rich, because that means that you dont have to worry about having enough money and because thats how succes is measured in society, and who doesnt want to be succesful.

I think of their political views as a disease, frankly.

An abnormality, a deformation; a pervertion of the human mind.

That's how some workers are. Some of them are quite reactionary and that is one of the main things that we need to work on.

In our current society, there is a stigma against workers and they are somewhat looked down upon which is why many of them want to advance up.

These workers admire capitalism because it's everyone's dream to "hit the jackpot" and be wealthy.

What they don't realize is that it is not a mutually compatible goal. Everyone reaches for it, and they block each other out.

Education is the best cure.

Theres a lot of "they" and "them" being used to describe workers around here. Perhaps if we had some actual working people on the board we wouldn't have to ask these kinds of silly questions.

And whoever said that workers of this kind should be called "Idiot, fool or chump" needs to shut his fucking mouth. You are absolutely clueless as to the experience of a working class person in this country. It is entirely understandable why workers in this country would feel that way. Our entire lives are filled with messages telling us that the only way out of the factory is to advance. We're constantly fed the line that our meal ticket is just around the corner, if we just work a little longer soon we'll have the opportunity to get in on some of the money everyone else seems to be making. On top of that, we spend a minimum of 8 hours per day locked in a room working our asses off, so it's not the easiest thing to come home and spend an extra couple hours reading political theory.

Workers think this way because to face the reality, that we are just cogs in a machine designed to make someone else rich, is pretty fucking depressing. There are countless reasons that the working class is demoralized, the fact that you think they are "idiots" because of this shows what a clueless, arrogant middle class little chump you really are.

It's fine to call yourself whatever you want, but to call others that without a sound analysis is making you no less of a fool then them.

I think some of you proclaimed leftists need to re up on ideology, superstructure and false consciousness.

Name calling, especially of the proleteriat, is not revolutionary.

A free market liberal.

But, please not a Capitalist.

A Capitalist owns means of production in which others work on.

Actually, they could be a capitalist. A capitalist is someone who advocates a free market, much like a communist advocates a stateless-classless community.

No, anyone can advocate a free market, peasant, slave, serf, proletariat, lumpen, petty bourgeosie, whatever.

A person's ideology does not define what class they belong to but its their relations to productions that does. A capitalist is a capitalist becomes he owns the means of production. If he advocates slavery and wishes to be a slave, that does not make him a slave. He is still a capitalist. Let's look at the material conditions fellas. No matter how much a serf advocates capitalism he is not a capitalist, he owns no means of production nor capital.

We may call ourselves communists, socialists, etc whatever, but this is just ideology. Ideology does not take away from the fact that we may be in reality the working class, bourgeosie, lumpen, serfs, peasants etc.

Economic liberals.

A proletarian, or worker, without class consciousness.

That would describe any non-class conscious worker, whereas I think RPAS is asking for a term to specifically describe pro-capitalist ones.

Besides, he didn't restrict his question to just proletarians. Rather he spoke of "middle class" people as well. All workers are workers, obviously, but he's asking for the political term to describe anyone who is pro-capitalist, and the answer to that is clearly not "proletarian"!

Our entire lives are filled with messages telling us that the only way out of the factory is to advance. We're constantly fed the line that our meal ticket is just around the corner, if we just work a little longer soon we'll have the opportunity to get in on some of the money everyone else seems to be making.

Absolutely correct.

The way to appeal to fellow workers is not to call them names. That most people in the first world accept capitalism as a matter of course these days is to be expected. There's no point in insulting people because of it.

Let's reserve our vile for the actual capitalists and treat our brother and sister workers with respect. They suffer enough from the inhumane despotism of capital, the last thing they need is to be attacked by us as well!

I would call these people victims of false consciousness, although some Marxists and socialists object to the phrase.
