Of course not all, but here are some (will deal with transportation in this post), which, at least, fascinate me.

This is a Camello which means camel in Spanish because of it’s humps.

A new taxi service has finally appeared in Havana’s streets which is going to be payable in CUP (Cuban non convertible pesos). It will start from Centro-Havana in areas around Chinatown. The first 3 kms will be 3.00 cup and then for every following K will be charged i0.40 cents (cup).

This transport system is called "a horse". Apparently it has existed for quite some time.

some of those narrow streets remind me of my old hood in mexico city. do people get mugged?

Karl Marx's Camel
4th August 2006, 12:02
I am not very familiar wth narrow streets (maybe someone else can help you, or maybe you will find some info by a google search "safety cuba"?). By "mugging" do you mean being robbed at gunpoint or with the threat of violence?
Some Cubans might cut the strap attached to your camera, so if you are smart, hold your camera instead of the strap. Pickpocketers have good technique, so you should be extra careful in tight and crowded spaces like on a camello. Brutal violence is not that a big of a problem though. Cuba has a reputation of being "crime free", although crime has risen lately.

I think the most important thing is to look confident.

Cuban people and a tad of architecture:

Comrade J
8th August 2006, 07:14
Only for a week unfortunately, I have 6th Form to attend and my dad doesn't want me missing lots of it. Still, it's going to be a good trip, but there will be an awful lot I will miss as it's just for a week.
And it's a ten hour flight, which will kill me, I find short flights boring enough. I shall just take plenty of reading material and music.

Love ya but can we not see our Cuban female comrades as something other than as sex objects? The difference for women there as opposed to Nicaragua where I like to spend time and find many 1st world men exploiting local women, is the availability of education, thus you are not hanging out with a women who is ignorant.

This is a big difference. Perhaps if you go on a date with a Cuban woman you will be pretty surprised at her understanding of politics and the classics of literature, if you are mature enough to see past appearences.

Unfortunately due to economic hardship, although Cubans have a better standard of living then most of the islands and Central America, you will be encouraged to take advantage of the beauty of these women due to your money.

I ask you not to, and know that Fidel has also frowned on such behavior. If you do date a Cuban woman please do so out of respect for her intelligence as well as her beauty. Women also due to cultural reasons are deferential to men, which you may prefer, as here we'll still kick your ass for acting like a dumb f*ck. So a woman who giggles at your dumb jokes for cultural or financial reasons may be more your cup of tea.

And unlike in Nicaragua she isn't going to show up at your job with the baby in your first world nation asking you to pay up, eh?Because she can't get in the country, well there is an incentive for you.

I really don't understand what prompted you to write this?

Who has said Cuban female comrades are just sex objects?
Is this because some people admired the woman sunbathing? It doesn't mean she is 'just a sex object,' people are just admiring her looks. People are hardly gonna comment on her personality and political beliefs as we don't know her.
