i have just joined this forum, and just from viewing the varying responses to several of the posts, i seem to sense that there is an underlying sympathy for all communist leaderships, regardless of the way they actually operate their nations.
for example, i would hope that the majority of the people on this site would be oppposed to the presidency of kim jong il,for example, due to the simple fact that, like many other so-called communist "leaders," he allows his people to starve in order to pursue goals that are likely counter in many ways to the actuals needs of the people.
So, i was wondering everyone's opinions on various communist countries, present and past, and i woud hope that you are all not blindly favorable towards these leaderships, for it seems to me that many "communist" leaders have often placed their own happiness and greed above the common good.

States are socialist, and there leaders are therefore socialist. As a community we either disagree with eachother, hate each other, or want to kill each other:) Welcome to a collection of mostly the liberal left with a few Marxists and Leninists thrown in for good measure :)

hey, welcome to che-lives!
I think what you're seeing when you see people sympathising with the likes of kim jong il is the fact that although most people on this board probably dont agree with his ways, it is always nice to see someone give imperialist America hell!

there has never been and will never be a communist nation. communism is the world, and no less.

socialist states to a communist world... that's how it has to be.

I don't really support any of the "communist" dictatorships of the past or today (not even Cuba, like many forum members here do).

But, as a Marxist, I do believe that the collapse of capitalism and the rise of a communistic system are inevitable. It's just not quite time yet.

Soon though, soon...

Believe it or not, I actually think that here you will find more informed criticism of communists, past and present, than in any capitalist media.

To the capitalists, all communists are "devils" and "demons". To us, they are human individuals with ideas, theories, and practices, subject to praise or criticism on their merits.

We try, to the limits of our abilities, to find out what has gone on in the past and what is really going on now...with the goal of a better socialism/communism than that of the 20th century.

You may find it very confusing for a while...but if you hang in there with us, you will be surprised at what you learn.

Welcome.

I think the main point that this forum as a whole shows is that we prefer how the world's "communist" states have and do operate compared to the imperialist countries of Europe, North America, and Japan.

What gets me is that millions of people die of starvation around the world in states that are or aren't socialist. If the reason people are starving in socialist states is because they are socialist, then what is the excuse for the others.

If there is a lack of food, theoretically, in a communist state everybody would be hungry. Under other systems half the population would starve. Too simplistic I know but it'll do for now.
