This summer in New York State we are pushing for legislation known as the Bigger Better Bottle Bill, to be passed in New York State.
Currently, consumers pay a five cent deposit on soda and beer that comes in cans, glass, or plastic, however no deposit is placed on bottled water, iced tea, etc, wich use the same containers and also represent a large element of the litter on the sides of the roads.
The Bigger better bottle bill, will be expanded to put a deposit on all drinks that come in bottles or cans, and will also esure that deposits that are not redeamed are given to local recycling or waste management programs. Currently, unredeamed deposits are kept by the corperation.
