It is an amino acid used in processed foods. The cheapest way to derive it is human hair and the main producer of this is in china. China Japan and Germany make this. It is an ingredient in bakery products that helps it go in the machinery and mix faster and complete production so we can feed our faces and these companies can make more money. Its the first step in cannibalism, thanks to capitalism. So its a real thing.
How fucking gross.

Next thing you know we'll be chowing down on Soylent Green.

But still, even if we need this amino acid, I'd rather it didn't come from human hair.

Erm, why is this such a big deal? And I want a proper logical reason, not "eeew it comes from human hair gross" - that's based on gut reaction not reason or logic.

Yall are push overs.

The capitalists feed you parts of other people, and youre cool with it?!

L-Cysteine is L-Cysteine, no matter where it comes from. If it's purified, then it's chemically indistinguishable. And it's not as if they're harming people to make it.

I notice most of the stuff on the web about this comes from people objecting it's not kosher or halal. They're entitled to their religious taboos, but don't be surprised that not everyone shares 'em.

it's a renewable source... the people who lose out on the hair can go on living their normal lives...

unlike say they were feeding us peoples' feet...

it just sounds a bit "icky" in principal, logistically there's nothing wrong with it...

Whether it's cannibalism or not is debatable. In that respect, chewing one's own fingernails would also be considered cannibalism.
