View Full Version : Fidel Born In 1927?
Karl Marx's Camel

Today I read from another person interested in Cuba on another forum, that Fidel was actually born in 1927, but he increased his age by one year to get into a school at some stage of his life.
Is it true?
Thoughts?
edit: perhaps this belongs more in history than in politics? I am not sure.

Personally, I could not care less if Fidel Castro did lie about his age.
I am more interested in the future direction of where Cuba could head once Castro dies (which will most likely be within the next decade).
The imperialists and the USA especially have plans for Cuba, resisting their interventions and plans for exploiting Cuba and forcing it back into the capitalist fold are more pressing issues IMHO.

I just happen to find it trivial yet interesting.

Ok, the only way to prove this is to ask Fidel himself since his parents are dead.

Why? So he can be the "Great Helmsman" forever?
These feelings were marked in Mao's China when everyone shouted the slogan "Long live Chairman Mao" at every meeting and rally.

VIVA FIDEL!
And yeah.. I've heard about the date of birth thing before. I don't think it is true.

Thats because they didn't need Fidel to do that, thet had Che Guevara instead. There are statues of him and a massive tomb, as well as the legacy of Che (which the Cuban government has gone out of it's way to strengthen). Although I don't know about street and place names.

Even if Fidel dies, as long as people would remember him and what he did, that would make him immortal.

That's called honoring a dead revolutionary hero.

To a cirtain extent I disagree. I am reading a biography of Che called Companero(sp) and the auther not only seems to be an admirer of Che's (as am I, he is an example to us all and a great man) but he also points out that the Cuban government sometimes makes exagerated claims about Guevara, and I don't blame them. I mean how many more people idolise Che compared to Fidel!?

While I wouldn't compare US Imperialism to Nazism, what's the problem with this?

That is just a picture of that "massive tomb" that RedDan was talking about.

Is that you in the pics?
If it is, I would suggest that you blur your face or something for security reasons.

Moved some of the pics to Graphics since it didn't have much to do with this thread.

Mao's personality cult did not extend to renaming cities, schools, or other institutions either. His face was just plastered everywhere similar to Fidel's.

Hmm...I think he is looking pretty old.
Thought it was 1926 though. ;)

I'am not sure if we will ever now which year Fidel was born in, i have heard several diffrenet years. I don't now which one to belive, though i have read in many places that he is older than che wether it be by a few years or just a couple. Maybe it is another great mystery that will be forever left for us to ponder and then make up our own minds about... or somebody could just ask him at some point- it seems as if nobody has (or i just haven't come across an interview with the question). As for the huge staues and tomb in honour of che guevara, don't you think such a man deserves something like that? I think every country has at least one huge statue in honour of some person or other, so why not?

You will not see a statue of me anywhere
Maybe not statues, but there are huge billboards with pictures of Fidel.
