I just saw an advert on TV for FilmFour's line-up tonight. At 21:00 Motorcycle Diaries is playing, and I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention. I haven't seen it before (or even read the Diares themselves, how bad is that ) so I'm looking forward to it. What do you guys think of it, either as a film or as an adapted-for-cinema telling of the Diaries?

That is all :P

I thought it was really well done.

Same here.

There have been countless threads on it so just search in the Che subforum in History.

Um, apparently it's Zoolander.

Lord Testicles

Yeah, it says Zoolander here as well.

But I know that Motorcycle Diaries will be on eventually.

Bah! I was out and gave orders (well, I say orders. There was a general grunt from my sister in response, which could mean anything) for it, but if Zoolander was on it may have confused her. I shall have to investigate tomorrow morning.

According to IMDB.com, the film is showing on F4 at -

9pm Sunday 6th August (which is, i think, a week on sunday)
10pm on the same day on F4 +1 hr (obviously)

9pm Thursday August 10th
10pm Thursday August 10th on F4+1

BTW, F4 is now free, so you don't need a subscription.

Rollo

Ah, I'm in Australia so I don't know what or how to access F4 :P.

I love this movie, although I find some of the Spanish difficult to follow.

Ander
28th July 2006, 07:54
Yeah, I know. But sometimes I find myself not reading and just listening to the movie but the Argentinians speak very quickly.

Rollo
28th July 2006, 08:01
Yeah, they do speak very fast in the movie but that's the nature of the language. Spanish spoken too slow sounds silly.

i love foreign film. even if you can get it dubbed in english i still keep it in the original language and have subtitles. it's better that way, that is how the film maker wanted it.

Argentinian Spanish is different from Spanish coming from other countries in Latin America. It is quicker and harder to understand, at least for me. When did I say Spanish should be spoken slowly?

I've just watched it, it was fantastic. Everybody has to see this. As the film goes on you witness the emergance of Che the revolutionary. Classic film so well done. Portrays Che in a great light and does him justice.
I'm going to watch it again.

RedAnarchist

Wow.

It's just finished and it is an amazing film. Che is such a altruistic and warm person - he wants to make contact with people (like when he doesn't wear gloves in the leper colony) and he feels a great connection to all South Americans and, ultimately, all humans. The actors are great - so much better than their plastic counterparts in Hollywood. Even watching the film using the FilmFour subtitles didn't detract from the film (i really should learn to speak Spanish :D )

I was actually rather annoyed that it was on. After all, Film Four has just come on freeview and this is the first decent film I've seen them have on there....yet I've already seen it and I've got the DVD. Good film though....and if you ever happen to get hold of the DVD, they have an interview with Che's mate as part of the extras. He lives in Cuba now and is pretty old.

Lol.

Was it actually Granado at the end of the film, or just some old guy they got? I kind of like the idea of having the real man himself there for that bit, it just feels right.

This is Gael Garcia Bernal who played Ernesto, with Alberto Granado.

I think the acting in the film was first class, it even had me believing it actually was Ernesto and granado for a little while. Rodrigo De la Serna did an excellent job of portraying Granado in the film, definetely a must see if you haven't already.

loveme4whoiam
8th August 2006, 10:42
Cheers for the pictures Comrade J :D I didn't know about Rodrigo de la Serna, that is a cool connection to have within the film.

I agree totally Rollo, that acting was superb. The pair of them totally portrayed the relationship the two men had, and how Ernesto changed on the trip. And it doesn't shove the politics down your throat, either, something more people should remember I think.

The statement with not letting his best friend have the $15 but later giving it to the homeless communists was really inspiring too, going to watch it again.

Yeah, it was him. He was at the shoot and advised the producers.

His newest book also came out with some pics in there if you wanna check that out.

My parents loved it! I think it's turned them into Fuserists! But really, it's given them a whole new insight as to why socialism is good and I good see they really thought about change. Very good!

You should read the book Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life. It makes the movie a bit more entertaining, since you will notice the little things they point out in the movie that you otherwise may have missed. This book so far is really good. Granted I am not even a 1/4 through the 800+ pages, but there were a lot of things I didn't know.

I studied it for school one time in English as a film study and got full marks, my teachers comments was it enlightened him to the man, which is always good.

I saw the film and read the book! I loved this movie! I liked it when they showed all the poor parts of South America! I hope a few people realised that the situation is really bad!

The sad part is that is only 1/4 through it.
