The Fog of War is great movie about American history. It is a documentary starring former secretary of defense Robert E. MacNamara. MacNamara makes some intresting comments. I advise all on this site to check it out.

On the World War II bombing of Tokyo.

"If we had lost we would all be tried as war criminals"

"In my time we had the power to destroy cities. Now we can destroy nations"

- not an exact quote but something similar.

He talks about many lessons he learned in his life about world politics.

However, he has no apologies for Vietnam and probably none for Japan.

What do you think of "The Fog of War" and MacNamara?

I watched over half of it today and will finish it tomorrow. I'm not that impressed. There's a few interesting parts in there, but for the most part the message seems pretty reactionary. We have to look at Vietnam through the glasses of the Cold War? Please...

Just finished it. My opinion is unchanged. I don't recommend this documentary.

It's pretty reactionary but it's interesting to hear MacNamara speak. I always like to see things from different viewpoints. I don't agree with him but I want to get inside his mind. It's for similar reasons I enjoy the Oliver Stone movie Nixon.
