I read the book in high school, but I don't remember too much about it. Never saw the movie.

movie kinda sucks in comparison to the (6, if I remember correctly) books. But the series was fucking hilarious.

I saw the movie and for the most part, the comedy was too light and the action to little. I almost fell asleep. However, I will give the book a try, as I have no doubt it would be more enjoyable.

The books are brilliant and the TV series was far superior to the movie which was crap.

The subtle wit and ironic humour in the story is superb.

Definately one of my favorite books (or series of books).

Douglas Adams's other books are good too, try 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency'.

The books were great (5.5 books). The TV series was so bad it was good. The movie was... OK. For fans, the movie was OK. For non-H2G2 addicts, it probably wasn't as enjoyable.

The best of all was the BBC Radio Series, which was the original format. Absolutely awesome. You can find it online for download... let me look up the link.

Phase 1 and 2 were the original from the 80's. 3 4 and 5 came in the past few years

I was being polite ;) .

The radio series is great as well, I just didn't like the film though, Zaphod Beeblebrox was fucking shit in the film with that stupid tilting head thing...they should have left it as a two headed person like in the TV series.

Which reminds me of Arthur Dent's quote when arguing with Zaphod....."Go bang your heads together four-eyes". :D

The scene where the physicists are trying to design the 'infinite improbability drive' is possibly my favourite.

"and it surprised him even more when he was savagely lynched by a rampaging mob of respectible physicists who'd finally realised that what they really couldn't stand was a smart-arse".

In the movie, I think the only accurate casting waswith Arthur and Marvin. Slarty Bartfast was good too I guess. But the rest just didn't seem right (Ford, Zaphod, Trillian). From the book and radio, I always got the picture of 30-somethings. Zooey Deschanel (Trillian) is 25. I mean, Trillian is supposed to have two graduate degrees (Math and Astrophysics). Susan Sheridan had the perfect voice for Trillian on the radio series. Intelligent, mature, sultry at times. Perfect.

Gotta love the books... Paradoxally, all my friends who have read the books said the movie sucked, and those who hadn't said it was at least OK.

So, obviously I didn't watch it ;)

Marvin was good in the movie though, at least he didn't look like something out of Dr. Who!

Did you notice they used the Marvin robot from the TV series in one of the movie scenes? When they are waiting in line at the Vogons.

I remember the books being good but only the first two or three. After that there was a noticeable drop in quality.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Then god created the universe, this has been considered by many galactic historians as a bad move.

Though I have not read the books (but plan to), I enjoyed the movie - despite the bad reviews. I actually saw it twice with some friends who also enjoyed it.
