It is true that the violence has gone up by 40% but a lot of it has been due to the sectarian violence and much of it by the Shiite militias.

There you go- one man's 'extremist' is another man's 'patriot'. Which would YOU be if this situation were happening in America?

If, hypothetically, the British returned to our shores to take back the Colonies...would you REALLY care WHO it might be that kills the invaders? As long as they are gone, I would say good riddance and iron out ideological differences once the nation itself is secure from outside oppression.

Personally, I wouldn't care if the guy next to me was a Maoist, a Trot, or a KKK Grand Wizard- if he's killing the enemy, I say go for it. We'll deal with everything else AFTER the war.

I don't think he was comparing Maoists to Klansmen; he was just saying that despite that they're radically different/completely against each other, that they should fight against their occupiers and then fight each other once their occupiers are gone and defeated.

Or what about in the Spanish Civil War, surely the communists and anarchists should have spent more time fighting fascists than each other?

I can't really understand why the insurgents would do something like this. If they tried to fight the US military in a conventional battle, they would get slaughtered. They simply don't have the training, weapons, or any major advantage.

A side note-
I don't support the religious fascists that kill and maim thousands of civilians, but the secular fighters have every right to kick the US out of Iraq.
