I had never even heard of her until I watched a Woody Allen movie that referenced her. Anyway, I just wondered about her and so I looked her up. Defector to the U.S., way anti-USSR, the whole bit. As I looked her up though, I came across this little gem on Wikipedia (bolding mine):
Originally posted by Wikipedia+--> (Wikipedia)In 1982 she moved with her daughter to Cambridge, England, and in 1984 returned to the Soviet Union, where she and her daughter were granted citizenship, and settled in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 1986 Alliluyeva returned to the United States, and later returned to Bristol, England in the 1990s. She now lives in a retirement home in Wisconsin.[/b]
Now, this shocked and interested me, as I live in Wisconsin (a state in the US, for my foreign friends). So I ventured to find out more. She goes by Svetlana Alliluyeva as well as Lana Peters, as of 1992. However, at this website (http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=54925) , I found this:
Google Answers
According to this webpage, "Svetlana Alliluyeva is living in a home for senior citizens in western England. She is 75 and does not speak
with anybody."
Indeed, I can find no other references to Svetlana's return to the United States. Is this some Wikipedia editor's idea of a joke, or is she really here? Anyone have any clues or sources?
[Note: I'm not really sure why I'm so interested in this. It appears that even if I could track her down, she wouldn't speak with me. Plus, it would be mean to interfere with the already public and tough life of a now old lady. I'm just fascinated, I guess, with finding out a little bit more.]
