i was wondering, should graffiti be used to make a statement besides to make art? I, being a graffiti artist myself, have never really though of using my skills and talent to make a political statement, but would that be considered ok with my fellow comrades? i would say that although it is vandalizing, it can stillbe a good way to spread the word and recruit more comrades. But it is a question that i was wondering and hope to get imput from all my fellow comrades.

The answer is yes. Many people don't speak up because they can't, or think that there are no other comrades out there, and graffiti does help.

A while ago i saw a news report that someone had tagged the Sydney Opra House, they had climbed to the top of the structure and spray painted in HUGE letters "NO WAR" (in red), this was towards the war in Iraq... for great political graffiti art goto http://www.graffiti.org/war/war_6.html

Apparently the fella who painted the Opera House is being handed a lengthy jail term (about 3-5 years) because it constitutes serious vandalism.

The only problem is that some poor sod employed by the council has to then clean it up. Which for them must be a pain in the ass.
It gives them a job, no graffiti, no graffiti removalist!

Yes. Graffiti should be used to make a statement as well as art. It is good that we have these kinds of tools such as graffiti to spread our message.

Graffiti is an eye-catching, permanent message that should be used for political statement. Just don't let the police know you're doing it.;)
