Dear fellow peace activist/artist,

My name is Jim Mann, I am an American graphic designer living in Barcelona, Spain. I am currently collecting anti-war posters and graphics from around the globe and will present the best of them in a book entitled PEACE SIGNS.

The Peace Signs project was initiated in response to the tremendous global backlash to the actions taken by George Bush and his administration following the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, the pre-emptive strike on the “axis of evil” and countries coined “rogue nations.” In cities around the world millions protested and carried with them not only their opinions but posters that graphically illustrated their outrage.

Posters have been carried in the marches, pasted tacked to the walls of cities and disseminated via the Internet. Though posters have always been an important part of war propaganda, it wasn’t until the Vietnam War that they were used to convey anti-war messages and not since then have we seen such an overwhelming response from the creative community.

This project aims to bring as many posters together as possible from around the world in order to keep an archive for future generations documenting the creative, satirical and thought-provoking posters carried by those who voiced their opposition to the pre-emptive war against Iraq during the spring of 2003.

The final product, Peace Signs, will be a comprehensive large format graphic art book with over 200 original illustrations from over 20 countries and in over 6 languages. Even if the book is published after the war ends, the messages from these posters will live on into history, and that is one of the goals of producing this book.

Don’t pass up this opportunity to present your artwork or to promote your organization. Names of artists and organizations will be credited appropriately.

A portion of the Profits from the sale of the book will go to selected charities and non-profit organizations.

All images in the book will be copyright free and available for individual use by the purchaser of the book to use only in a not for profit manner.

Submissions can be in the form of printed paper or on CD-ROM,

A portion of the profits will go to some selected non-profit organizations, perhaps UNICEF or OXfam. I am still working out those details. I think this is important, because, even though I would like to recover the costs of my labour and expenses, I dont want to appear to be a "war profiteer"

I hope this answers your questions.

The best place for the anti-war posters and such would be the anti-war groups' websites. I know that many of the IndyMedias have photos of the various anti-war events.
