Yeah, I've heard about this but it seems to me that it will be more of a fad among the rich than anything else.

I thought when I seen the thread name that the Disney workers were on strike. :D
I have heard of this before and it certainly looks promising for saving lives. It sounds like relatively cheap technology and could become common place in trauma wards.
Thanks for the link, very interesting.

Did you read the article?
It could be very useful for surgeries and life threatening injuries where loss of blood usually is the cause of death, even though the wound is repairable.

As a trauma nurse, I have experienced taking care of patients whose primary cause of death is hypovolemic shock or massive blood loss (both internal and external) and as I read the article, I can say that it could really help in saving the lives of a lot of people who suffer from traumatic injuries. But, I know ethics woulds always get in the way..

I might be reading the article wrongly, but didn't the procedure require all the pig's blood to be drained in order for the chilling substances to enter and do its stuff? I don't like the idea of lying on a gurney, literally chilled to the bone, with no blood left in me. Still, this has amazing potential for saving lives.

Sorry, I didn't read the article completely. Whenever I hear suspended animation, I always think of people being frozen or something so that they can be re-animated later in their lives. My mistake on this; it does seem to be something that could be very helpful.
