You have those in the "ghetto" who live off welfare checks and don't get a job. You have mothers who have like 6 babies and get a big check to take care of them, but she just abandons them. What do you think of these people who exploit the system for all that it is worth?

You have never been to a ghetto obviously. Actually, I've never been to a ghetto but it doesn't take a genious to figure out these people aren't 'lazy' or 'welfare queens' — they're fucking exploited. The ghettos, barios, and resevations serve to create a permenant underpaid class of workers. The 'white' slums, too, are a group of an underpaid class but this status is not permanent.

My suggestion? You walk into a ghetto, barrio, reservation, etc. and just stand their and look. Tell me what you see — not what the media tells you to see.

So, wait, selfishness and playing the system towards one's advantage for the capitalist class is a "virtue," while selfishness and playing the system towards one's advantage among the lower class is looked upon as "exploit[ing] the system"? I thought this was a dog-eat-dog world. Life isn't fair. Suck it up!

The capitalist class "exploit[s] the system" far more than these mythological "welfare queens," (if they existed at all in the first place, which they do not). This is funny because the capitalist class designed the system to work for themselves in the first place. It's laughable that sometimes they decide to betray their own rules, but they do.

Hence we see executives at Enron stealing millions (and getting a slap on the wrist--or often nothing at all, aside from retirement in the Cayman islands), while some poor schmoe steals a few grand and gets thrown in prison for years.

The double standards are sickening.

less money for the government to waste on the fundaments of exploitation.

Proof? Secondly I don't think its possible to support 6 people off of a welfare check anymore after cuts. It's probably hard for one person to do it.

You consider that exploiting the system for all it's worth?

These people can barely survive on that money. Now, if they were illegally getting those checks then that's a different story.

Can't agree more.

That's the way it is.

This is a somewhat naive topic so I will move it to learning for now.

You mean this 'thread' I think. ;)

Your post was devoid of racism (other than the word racism).

Whilst undoubtedly there are people in deprived areas who 'sponge' off society, they are the tiny minority. I work amongst some of the poorest people in Europe, and believe me, it is impossible for a family to 'live' off the dole, the ones who cheat have other earnings coming in, that's how they do it, but as I say it is a tiny minority who do this, and they are despised by those around them, trust me on that one.

and don't forget...the money these minorites swindle out of the state (I'm not supporting them btw), is miniscule when compared to the huge amounts that the upper classes swindle out of the taxman, their companies, the workers pensions and stuff like that.

My old man has a good saying..."where there is money, there is a fiddle and where there is BIG money, there is a BIG fiddle".

I believe many of these people 'cheat' the system because they see no other alternative. They don't realize that communism can be a reality, so they go to the next best thing.

What is the point of this topic? Sure some people cheat, but you are only looking at this hypothetical situation at the surface. How do you define cheating in a capitalist system?

Capitalism exists on the foundation that those who prosper are deserving of their own prosperity and must own to it. It goes the other way as well. Someone in that situation like that woman is no worse than someone who makes six figures and spends large amounts of money on things that are completely uneccesary to survival.

Capitalism encourages and is nourished by greed. In order to survive in a capitalist society one must accept the fundamentals of the system. The rich, middle class, and the poor all become greedy due to the nature of capitalism itself.

In reality, there is no choice, free will has no relation to your ultimate destiny. People can only control their lives to a certain extent. Forcing someone to take total responsibility for their situation prosperous or bad is unfair. No one really chooses to be in the socio-economic spot they are in. If everyone would be a little more forgiving and put less faith into the illusion that people can really choose their destinies or situations would benefit everyone. Doing the opposite is selfish, and at the same time self-defeating.

you've been listening to those conservative friends of yours. that is a typical argument used by conservatives and the daily mail and people who are anit-welfare state and anti-immigration.

The system we live under exists to provide welfare for the rich. As Chomsky says, countries like the US and the UK already have socialism, its just socialism for the rich though. Concentrate your efforts on the exploiting, scrounging elite that own everything and pay nothing. Such as the Winsor family in the UK, they are the ultimate scroungers.

There been much debate on this here in sweden, of those who "exploits the system" etc. The real problem is not that some takes out sickness benefits when they are not sick , the real problem is all those times you work even though you are sick and should stay at home, just because you don't afford to get sick-listeded. And the real problem is not those who cheat with allowances so that they can live a decent life, it is those capitalists bastards that grants themselfs many million $ parachutes, etc.

Use the system as much you can.
