What is it about men that makes them do more criminal things?
I assume we think it is largely societal reasons and not essential characteristics to men, but other than that i don't really know.
So why?
ps. i don't know what forum this should be in. i put it here cos it has the sociology bit.

I don't think it's entirely cultural in origin, although societal factors could very well play a significant role in the phenomenon. If I recall correctly, the consensus among psychologists is that there is some innate biological tendency for males to be more aggressive than females. Hell if I know why that is though.

It may have something to do with the fact that males, generally speaking of course, fell more dominant. This is due to greater physical stature and a history of male dominance throughout history.

Males are generally more aggressive and stronger due to biology and to how we have been brought-up.

As a gender dont men, at least in western countries, have more impact on negative aspects of society rather than positive ones?
So would a future society be better with no guys around?

No. Any society with no guys around is doomed to extinction.

It has something to do with men having high levels of testosterone, I believe? This is why males are generally (not exclusively, TragicClown), more competitive.

Well not necisarraly RedSouth, it could be argued that we are more competitive because our environment encourages competitiveness more between males then females (youth sports, boyscout mini army, action movies, wrestling, etc, etc, etc) I don't think that Testosterone inherently makes you more violent (I think, anyway) I know that it increases your muscle mass though...
But in the end, I haven't taken A&P, I have no desire to take A&P, and I will never take A&P. So I suppose thats as far as I go =P.

But it's not just limited to our culture. Anthropologists have found a similar trend in all sorts of cultures across the globe, even ones which have never heard of football or action movies.

Ahh, but do they still encourage male competition in sports? I bet they do in some form or another.
Though I suppose thats not a smoking gun. Flip a coin I suppose ;).

According to statistics, at home women resort to violence more often than men. We're not talking about much; slightly more.

The answer is pretty simple. Males are more likely to do crimes than Females Becuase of the fact that soceity as a Whole has labled us the Bread winners and are responsible for providing for the family and when they cant accomplish this thorugh legitamate means they will break the law in order to provide for the family. But this is only an example and doesnt explane all the differnt types of crime but this probably explain they majority of them. :hammer:

While testosterone does not cause criminal behavior, or violence directly. What it does cause (among other things) is aggression. This behavioral trait can then lead to any other thing. Sexual dominance, violence, competition, flatulence, the inability to shop for shoes...

No, i dont think men are biologically disposed to being criminals - that's a really defeatist position,
Don't people commit crime because of economic need? Social isolation? Social dislocation? Alienation? Because crime is defined by the bourgeoisie.
Because of biology? Nah, that's giving society and capitalism a free-ride.
I dunno what the answer is, but i would not be suprised if it had a lot to do with human social culture, and the 'values' and conditioning of men in capitalist society (something that Ultra-Violence kinda touched on a bit - gender roles).
