View Full Version : Could Bush cause a revolution...

... if he invaded Cuba? I read this on a 'New Internationalist Magasine' advertisement:

"Bush's advisers say Iraq is just a 'battle in the wider war'. They have named North Korea, Iran, and even Syria, Cuba and Libya as possible future targets."

Do you think this would be enough to start an uprising and what would you do if it happened?

I believe that G.W. will lose more and more vote with every war he drags the U.S. people into. however, I doubt the U.S. people will rebel. The worst we could see are riots but, I doubt there would be a revolution.

A better question is, How long until the U.N. steps in and says "NO MORE or we will silence you!"?

What is the UN going to do now? They KNOW they can't screw around with US! They wont be doing shit. We'll kill them! We have our soverginity!
(Ok, that was sarcastic...)

There might be more riots. And the UN wont be able to do shit. But if he invades Cuba, I doubt his presidency will last much longer. Why wouldn't there be some form of a revolution? He just might tick us off that much.

If they attack North Korea first they might not even have a future.

7 million fanatical soldiers, nukes, It isn't exactly a walk in the park.

Unfortunately Bush is probably going to win the next election no matter what he does since the democrats have decided to back like 7 seperate candidates. And most of the democratic hopefuls suck.

The U.N. will not step in anywhere.
Quite on the opposite, it enjoys being stepped on.
It's role is useless, it was clearly demonstrated before and throughout the Iraqi conflict.
I wouldn't put any high hopes in it if I were you.

Bush could cause a revolution if he invaded Cuba, but one that would easily be squashed by the American government and military. At least, in this godforsaken world, there is some hope in mankind of not condoning that kind of imperialist action.

Simply, the numbers of people in America to revolt would not be enough. After the Cuban Missile Crisis under Kennedy, the US public attitudes to the country and the leader would have stiffened, and indeed, many Americans see the need to do "something" about the country. The majority of people who will now support war after September 11th is to great that it would insight a counter-revolution. At least the potential for a revolution exists.

What is the point in the UN anymore? The US can manipulate anyone for their own purpose, and even if they fail at that, they can simply just ignore the council and go ahead with their action. As Zombie said, the UN is hopeless and obsolete.

"Do you think this would be enough to start an uprising and what would you do if it happened?"

We saw before the iraqi war the growth of a big peace movment. I assume that the anti-war protest will grow even bigger if there will be another war. Plus the cowboy from the white house would have less and less reasons to justify his war - Cuba executes in a year much less people than the US and it's citizens are poor mainly because of the US, Syria gives much more freedom to it's citizens and is much less dangerous to the region than the Saddam regime, North Korea aren't crazy religious people who would just start shooting their atom bombs.

A third war by the cowboy G.W. Bush would prove to everyone that these wars are only for imperialism and money. Even Blair won't support it, because of public opinion in the UK. Bush would lose any legitimacy if he'll go for another war, but he might just be stupid enough to do it.

I´m sure Bush would find some small reason to invade what ever country he wanted(just saying they house Al quaeda terrorists and Usama bin-laden) propagating it to all media networks all over the world.

I´ve said it before and here it goes again the anti-americanism is gaining more and more support in Europe and if he would start another war, he would have a serious problem. No matter if he can manipulate all media network just the fact that he would kill thounsands of more innocent people would trigger a great wave of Bush hatred here in Europe i think!

It would need to be another long, Vietnam kind of war. Something that would require a draft. A military draft really could start a revolution in the U$.

The 12-19 age group (in the U$) was one of the only age groups to have a majority OPPOSED to the ruling-class imperialist aggression in Iraq. (60% opposed) These are the people that the Congress would be trying to draft for a future imperialist adventure. As you can see, I doubt it would work. However, our ruling-class is well aware of this, so they aren't going to try anything stupid (unfortunately).

very VERY few countries have the numbers and motivation to start even a peacful revolution againt the US. The US simply a veritable juggernaut that enjoys stepping on eveyone in its path. Sadly i sincerely doubt the UN has the balls to intervene on a basis more severe then that of words and thoughts. In time the US shall bring itself to its own knees. Anti-War prostest will grow and support will dwindle but GWB will play this out for all its worth. but hey if someone somewhere spraks the tide of revolution i'm sure that many others will join in.

If G W Bush invades other countries, that means the US will be in a state on wr for the next ten years. This would be similar to the Vietnam war with lots of young Americans being drafted and killed in action. In the aftermath of Vietnam, during the 1970s some Americans who were in the antiwar movement formed rebel groups such as the weathermen and the SLA. Todays situation could cause a repetition of rebel groups like the SLA being formed again in the US.
