MOST people on the left have their own ideas and follow nobody, merely taking influence from a variety of people&#39;s ideas. Second, this has nothing to do with imperialism and is solely about the spread of capitalism (Marx didn&#39;t live in an age of imperialism so he couldn&#39;t have written about it). Third, if you read the endnote, you would see an explanation for this:


In assessing these events in his article Engels proceeded from the general conception that it was progressive for patriarchal and feudal countries to be drawn into the orbit of capitalist relations because, he thought, this accelerated the creation of preconditions tor a proletarian revolution (see Note 252). Have you read the other forums here? Some people want a USSR dictatorship, some people want a democratic multi-party communism, some people want no government or parties at all. Some people are pacifists, some are more militant. Some support the Iraqi resistance "against imperialism" other people despise reactionary religious zealots even if they&#39;re against imperialism. Some people want a centrally planned economy, others want an economy based on a federation of collectives distributing wealth. There&#39;s huge conflict on the issue of dialectics. Some people like a welfare state others see it as the government imposing dependancy. Some people love Che, others hate him; views on Chavez are equally divided.

No government and USSR type government are pretty huge dichotomies. The western right is made up of free market fundamentalists who branch anything that isn&#39;t capitalism as a variation on socialism; there&#39;s even a topic here calling fascism the same as communism, and I&#39;ve even heard it said that feudalism is a type of socialism. Wtf?

I have browsed right wing magazines and they have far more cohesion than here; consider that in the event of a revolution the anarchist half of this board would ultimately end up fighting the Leninist/Trotskyist half because of the wide variety of views.

I won&#39;t say "Nazi" exactly, but on another thread he did say that Hitler wasn&#39;t a monster because he didn&#39;t use nuclear weapons. Which he didn&#39;t have. Imperialism is not helping at all. Just look at the Third World. Extreme poverty. The Bourgeoisie of those nations came too late on the scene to play any progressive role. On one hand, they are dependent on foreign capital, on the other hand, they are tied in a bloc with landwoners and other capitalists, of which make up a tiny minority. The theory of Permanent Revolution is the only realistic solution to the problems of the Third World. It has been many decades, and not even the tasks of the Bourgeois-democratic revolution have been met, nor can they be met.

We are not skipping anything. The Bourgeoisie is present in those nations. It can&#39;t play any progressive role, though. The bourgeoisie of those nations were born dependent on their old colonial masters, and they are in a bloc with a small capitalist class, largely consisting of landowners. Any attempt to improve things comes into conflict with capitalism, and therefore, the proletariat must ally with the peasantry and urban poor to overthrow capitalism, start at the bourgeois-democratic tasks, make them permanent, and then uninterruptedly move toward the soicalist tasks. It then goes on an internationalist policy to spread the reovolution to prevent isolation in a backward nation. The revolution is permanent in that it starts out at and makes permanent the bourgeois-democratic tasks, and then keeps advancing on the international arena until soicalism has overtaken the planet.

Marxism has been held back by many things: Stalinism, the postwar boom that a lot of Marxists were not able to see, due to them not adapting to changing cicrumstances, etc. The October Revolution was proof of the permanent revolution, and it remains valid to this day. No theory has yet to put forth a viable alternative to this theory.
