I was strolling along in my local store and I noticed a couple of Monty Python films; The Holy Grail and The Life of Brian. I hadn't seen them in a while and so I bought them. I watched them this afternoon and I had forgotten how good they were. They are so good, hilirious. I recommend the younger members of this board who haven't seen the Monty Python films to make sure you do, they are classic comedy.

Definitely. I jsut watched Life of Brian again and I'd forgotten how wonderfully irreverent it is- especially the final scene.

Absolutely agree.

They are brilliant, and don't forget The Meaning of Life as well.

Three very good films.

You picked that up wrong. He meant any producer of dairy products.
I'll need to get the meaning of life as well on DVD.

"I fart in your general direction"

Both the Holy Grail and Life of Brian are awesome (particularly Grail!!!) - Monty Python is the only thing that touches season 3/4 of Black Adder for me, hilarious shit.

That bit towards the end of the holy grail when king arthur is climbing the steps to the castle and the French fella says something like "I wave my genitals at your uncles" I nearly died laughing.

I love the bit where Arthur goes through the village and the guy says "he must be a king"

"why?"

"because he hasn't got shit all over him" :D

I like the bit in the Life of Brian were the blind man cries out "I WAS BLIND BUT NOW I CAN SEE!!!"

and then falls down the hole.

Cruel but funny as hell  .

You really can't beat the Holy Grail's anarcho-syndicalist peasants...

"Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society."

Lets get this over with, shall we?

We're knights of the round table
we dance whene'er we're able
We do routines
And chorus scenes
With footwork im-pec-able
We dine well here in Camelot
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot
We're knights of the round table
Our shows are for-mid-able
Though many times
We're given rhymes
That are quite un-sing-able
We're opera mad in Camelot
We sing from the diaphragm a lot!!
In war we're tough and able
Quite in-de-fat-i-gable
Between our quests
We sequin vests
And impersonate Clark Gable
It's a busy life in Camelot
I have to push the pram-a-lot.

:)

Quite simply the funniest material ever put to film. EVER.

The only people we hate more than the Romans are the fucking Judean People's Front.

It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.
But... you can't have babies.
Don't you oppress me.
I'm not oppressing you, Stan. You haven't got a womb! Where's the foetus going to gestate?! You going to keep it in a box?!
...what's the point of fighting for his right to have babies when he can't have babies?!
It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression.
Symbolic of his struggle against reality.

Yeah, when we were watching Blackadder stoned I had to remind myself to breathe. :P Because the pain that normally accompanies to much laughter was gone, so I had to tell myself to inhale...

I had to go to a little joint dedicated to cult/classic/art cinema downtown in order to rent The Meaning of Life. Rating - 18. Why? "Degradation of ethic values"

The one thing that grabbed most of my attention was the acting, especially the sex-teacher, the protestant couple and the British generals. Fantastic.

I'm actually crying at those Lego skits, they are hilarious  The two-second bit of the knight hitting a parrot on the counter made me fall off my chair  I haven't watched Holy Grail in years, but 'll have to get them both (and the Meaning of Life I guess) and fo a big sitting.

Did anyone ever see A Fish Called Wanda? Not really as irreverent as Monty Python but still hilarious.

Well this was inevitable. I'm surprised this wasn't put up earlier. But the song is the best. I couldn't believe it when it started happening, total randomness. But loved it.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

I keep laughing when I think of that old guy in the cell in Life of Brian. When Brian gets his face spat on he says "you lucky bastard."
Later when all the people condemed for crucifixion pass by he shouts from the cell window "you lucky bunch of bastards."
Absolute hilarity.

I was watching '50 Greatest Comedy Sketches Ever' on Channel 4 last night (in UK) and Monty Python's 'Dead Parrot' sketch was number 2 :D
