Those of you familiar with Pink Floyd will know that Syd was one of the original founders of the band and was the main star of the band at the beginning.
His tragic ending with the band is well known as well as the reclusive life that he lived after that.

Syd was a great musician.

Yeah...and how are they over-rated?

They're not as good as most people regard them
people talk about dark side of the moon and the wall as the greatest recordings of popular music ever, and it's not that great. Catchy hooks and melodic tunes with grandiose instrumentation and cheesy shows. Not that I dislike Pink Floyd.
They're just over rated.
But this probably a bad place to discuss that.

Ok.
I've heard that Syd was always in poor health in his later years but I didn't think there was that much of a problem. For some reason, I always thought that he would make some type of re-appearance but I guess we'll never see that. :(

He apparently died of diabetes, which i find particularly ironic. He was struggling with drugs and shit for the later part of his life and he lives through that and ends up dying of a desiese anyone can get.
And RedZep, your right this is a bad place to bring this up. Claiming a band is overrated doesnt meen anything. A lot of bands were overated, but it doesnt make the bad. Pink Floyd were revolutionary in thier music, and you cant put them down cause they dont match your tastes.

I didn't say they were bad nor do I think that.
They weren't very revolutionary. They weren't the first psychedelic band, and they certainly weren't the first progressive rock band.

I'd always thought that he had psychological problems including schizophrenia and that drugs simply exacerbated it.
They weren't very revolutionary.
They were very avant-garde and experimental.

They made Animals. I think that counts them as "revolutionary."
(and yes, I do realize that wasn't your meaning...)
