The Venezuelan industry still continues to produce a full range of the special outfit for the troop horses.

While I have never seen any gear on a horse resembling that, I find the continuing use of horses a bit worrying.

In war, cavalry will be smashed even by regular infantry, and will have to stay away and hidden from both infantry, armored fighting vehicles and artillery, and I assume today, also the air force. If the purpose of this cavalry is reconnaissance, this is likely to not be a good idea; "As a general rule the probing cavalry managed to identify the enemy outpost line, but they were never able to break through and ascertain what was going on in the enemy rear areas." (reichsarchiv, I, 126)

If the plan is to use the horses in an eventual rural insurgency against a foreign power, then they might, however, prove to be useful.

I'm pretty sure that this is the case. Venezuela is in the tropical region so parts of it's terrain are inaccessible with modern vehicles particularly the rural regions.

I don't think that Chavez is looking for a showdown for his horses with the iron cavalry.

But it looks like the upgrade should be pretty good. The AK-103 is ver similar to the AK-74 except for the length and caliber.

So what about it? It's just an exhibition to show-off stuff.

Its a welcome sight after Iraq was overrun by the imperialists
Hopefully the unity created with Venezuela's membership in MERCOSUR can provide foreign assistance and allies in case Venezuela is attacked by the US

I still think Venezuela needs political reform, specifically putting all the power in the hands of the ppl
However this is still a good sign, anything to repel imperialism

the AK-103 is an updated AK-47 but because it uses different materials its much lighter more accurate (and a bit more range) and less recoil then the AK-47.
its the perfect weapon in my opinion and im pretty confident that history proves me right .

the arms expo itself is probably meant for familiarisation with the new equipment aswell as a little propaganda.
perhaps combined with the hope of venezuela becoming a middle man in arms trade between russia and the rest of south america.

I agree with you NWOG on the usefullness of cavalry in war. While they may have now place on the battlefield of organized armies, when it comes to guerrilla warfare, livestock can prove exceptionally useful. They run on a variety of fuels as opposed to singularly gasoline or diesel, are mostly silent, and can navigate territory a truck never could. Camels, and goats as pack animals may be some creatures of interest. There is nothing that cannot be utilized for the revolution.

Well also part of the new military initiative in Venezuela is to have armed peoples militias. If units in the countriyside are trained in guerilla warfare a horse might be a readily avilable and useful storage animal. I think that Venezuela does unfortunatley need to buy weapons.

I think it’s great, Venezuela is showing that it's not run by an imperialist nation and that it will defend that sovereignty by any means.

Thats real live.
