Is the idea of Majority rule a just one? Of should there be a government in order to protect the minority from the "will of the majority". Such thinking was typical of the early American Federalists, such as John Adams, who believed the role of government was to protect the minority from the sometimes dangerous moods of the majority. (think of Jim Crow laws).

My view is that majority rule works as long as people maintain the right to collectively assemble and disassemble. For instance, if people disagree on what percentage of taxes they should pay, group B (which wants lower taxes) should be able to remove themselves from 2% of taxation (which group A insists upon having to provide certain programs).

If there was a system better than majority rule, I would certainly be open to it - as it does allow for horrid things to occur.

In fact, the idea that the government can protect minorities is quite idealistic, I think, because there is no one left to protect against the government. Someone may bring up the system of checks and balances, but I have yet to see a system implemented that both keeps the government from doing harm and the people from doing harm.

Plus the entire idea of government, in my opinion, stems from the belief that people are too stupid to run their own lives. Sometimes, I feel like agreeing with those people, but, in a society where capitalism does not exist, people are in an environment where their thought process is corrupted far less.

The democracy we have now is not just. Votes are supposed to be equal. Africans vote for a government with no power. American votes are worth much more of global scale. On a global scale we have a rule of the american people. Perhaps we can call it Americanocracy. This is why i dont complain about cuban democracy, its not much worse when you look at them both compared to true democracy.
