Pragmatism had been called the 'philosophy behind capitalism'. Is it something 'evil', is it just being practical or is it both?

It has been called this mainly by people who don't understand what pragmatism is. I know many pragmatic socialists. It's basically doing what is most sensible/possible/convienient and not following theoretical pip-dreams.

I like to think of myself as a pragmatic utopian.

The Yanks are famous for their school of pragmatism but it’s not really a stand alone philosophy, it’s in conjunction with other factors and affirmed values. You could consider Eclecticism a form of intellectual pragmatism which has existed since the days of ancient Hellas.

If Jazzratt's definition is correct I would consider myself a pragmatist. Not that I know too much of it or actually have the time to research it right now.
