View Full Version : Wants Under Communism

I have some questions that I hope that I get some responses to.
If in communist society I wanted a Playstation for example, or a TV, how would I get it and how would it be determined which one I get or how big?
Also, acknowledging that communism satisfies human needs, what if I wanted to keep eating more and more, would I be allowed to? How much would be allowed?

You would get the best TV that the technology allowed at that time, everyone (who wanted a TV) would get the same.
The same could be said for home entertainment, I should imagine that technology will have left the 'Playstation' way behind by then ;) .
Technological advances are just as important under a communist system as they are now, as would be the means of producing the technologically advanced items.
Not just from an entertainment point-of-view but also with regards to health care, education, agriculture etc.
Also, acknowledging that communism satisfies human needs, what if I wanted to keep eating more and more, would I be allowed to? How much would be allowed?
Communism satisfies human needs....not human greeds.
Firstly, priority would be given to ensuring everyone (in the world) had enough to live a healthy, comfortable existence. You surely wouldn't object to that?
After that it becomes a matter of supply and demand. We would produce enough food for the population to live healthily, and then produce enough to be kept in storage in case of bad harvests, disasters etc.
The food would be as varied as possible (as long as basic foodstuffs are not affected) to allow for a variable life for everyone.
If you wanted to 'gorge' yourself to death then I should think this would be possible, but not at the expense of anyone else, if this did occur, then I would expect the food distribution person in your area to find another career.
As for you yourself, as a 'socially aware' individual that I'm sure you are, I would hope your desire to eat yourself to an early grave, would come way down on your list of priorities in a communist world, somewhere near the bottom I hope.

You would get what you found... Different collectives would make different tvs that are not really (at least directly) competing with each other... I can clearly imagine people not giving tvs or playstations to individuals just because they think such objects should be used only when used collectively. It would be up to the collective to give something to you, of course they would give it to you if they don't have a legitimate reason not to do so. If they didn't you would make this known and the community would solve the problem, if they can't solve it by talking they would stop giving to the person who refuses to give without a legitimate reason.

Again as much as you get. There wouldn't be a specific limit and it would be up to the person who is giving food to you. No matter what, after a point he or she will stop giving food to you, if nothing he or she would stop giving because they wouldn't want you to get fat

Post revolution it will be produced (based on the percentage of want as a communist as a whole) and you should just pick out what you want.
However this will be a while in the future. "Tv" as we know isn't going to be the same under communism. You might not want a tv then. By that time we will probably be watching tv on a computer monitor or something like that. It will be more universal.
what if I wanted to keep eating more and more, would I be allowed to? How much would be allowed?
Once production is up and running post revolution you can eat as much as you want aside from rare food which would still have to be rationed.
