I do think that Alexander's mother knew that things were changing much sooner, when she left the apartment and saw the changed Eastern Germany (inlcuding a Lenin statue being carried away by a helicopter (it looks like the Lenin statue is reaching out to her)) the fake news cast Alexander and his freind Denis made didn't explain the large captialist bill boards (it said westerns were fleeing from facists goverments in the west, yet what they just threw up Ikea ads to make them more at home?)

I saw it, but I guess it's been a couple of years.

It is out on DVD and that DVD had been put on on file sharing networks.

It's quite a beautiful film, with wonderful music. Worth your time.

I saw it about 6-7 months ago, very good film.
It's in German, so if you don't speak German, make sure your download or copy says it has English subtitles on.
I got American History X a few months ago, and it was entirely dubbed in German, which I don't speak

Saw the Movie in theatres when it first showed. Bought the DVD the day it came out. Great film that really adds a funny twist to the whole east and west germany deal.

I loved Goodbye Lenin! My favourite line was 'I know what you think. Everyone does. But I'm not him.' by Sigmund Jahn.

I think you can often download subtitles from another site and there's a program called Vobsub or something that automatically will include the subtitles in your movie.

To be honest I hate dubbed movies anyway, I like to hear things in the language they were made, and read subtitles if it's not and English or French movie.

But American History X is in English, so to listen to it in dubbed German and read English subtitles would be pretty annoying, I'd rather acquire an English copy and watch that.

Same here. I really liked its viewpoint on the idea of "Communism" vs. Capitalism, where Alex wasn't exactly thrilled under East Germany's system, but seems to find that the West's was certainly no better, if not worse.

I like it. Is pretty good, the story is interesting and the music too, whom was composed by the same composer than Amélie.
