View Full Version : Cutting Your Neighbors Grass

In a Communist Society, what if I didnt feel like cutting my own lawn and paid the neighbor's kid to do it? would that be not allowed? ok no money. but I let him have something of mine, or give him something in return.
Once again, your letting Capitalism take sway over your arguements. Remember: Everything is "allowed" so long as you see fit to do it.
As for exchanging goods for services, there really isn't any point for him to mow your grass in exchange for something since there will be an abundance of most any demand. I'm sure you could ask him nicely to do it =P.

Chances are in a Communist society no one would want lawns.
Think about it they are a waste of resources and time.
It only exists in present society so you don't devalue your neighbours property and your own by having a shitty lawn.
The concept of property would just be gone.

What would he want of yours that he couldn't get himself?

Why would you even want a lawn?
I can't stand mowing mine, but my parents make me. I would rather just let the weeds(I call them wildflowers) overtake the lawn. I think it would be much more beautiful as well.

It would be very easy to mow your lawn if you wanted to, and if you didn't want to I'm sure a family member or a member of your community would do it. Nobody would have huge, sprawling plantations so for those who have a lawn it wouldn't take much time to mow. If enough people wanted it done perhaps robots would be produced to do it. It wouldn't be much different than those vacuum robots they have today.
Personally any land that I had around my house I would use for flowers, fruit trees, or some sort of garden.

I don't see the point in having individual plots of open land. It would be much better to have a communal plot. You could have sections for gardening and sports so that there is plenty of room.
Also, paying another person to do your work would be wage-slavery. It would definitely be frowned down on.

No lawns? No way. I'd grow a lawn, but think of this: a lawn of clovers. They don't grow fast, and are much more beautiful than grass.
Janus, I like your idea of community plots too.

Then do lawn maintenance as a hobby. Your neighbors will thank you.
And you'll have a front yard. But you won't 'own it'. You'll possess it, but the entire concept of 'ownership' will be gone.

I guess it would be up to all those affected. But you could always live nearby people who don't give a shit about taking care of the communal land, then you would manage it essentially as if it were your own. And if others wanted to participate, you'd likely work something out and may even forge a friendship.
I guess point being, even if the land around where you live isn't technically yours, what kind of crazy asshole would leave his community and come into yours to tear up your rose bushes? Common courtesy would go a long way I think.

Sure, why not. There's a difference between personal property and private property. The land you live on is not exclusively and solely owned by you for your purposes.
It's just that the majority of Americans don't really use their front yards. In the UK, the old houses don't really have front yards. It's more of a decorous thing and not really practical.
I was talking about making things more practical by establishing a communal plot where there's much more room than that small front/back yard in which to do activities in.

Thanks. I guess it'll be similar to the old village communal plots. Communities could get together and do stuff and it could also be used for grazing (that would get rid of the need for lawn mowing as well).

What about if my wife wants to lay out topless in our backyard by our pool? my neighbors are free to wonder in and violate her privacy to get a tan in her own backyard? because we dont even own it? its everyones? thats the concept i just dont understand. thats not freedom.

Ownership will be radically changed in a communist society.
What about if my wife wants to lay out topless in our backyard by our pool? my neighbors are free to wonder in and violate her privacy to get a tan in her own backyard?
That's more of a decency thing. What we're trying to say that private property at least the capitalist sense of it wouldn't exist anymore. No one would have exclusive and sole ownership of land.

Grow weed on your lawn. Problem solved.
Nah seriously, just ask me. I'll do it for free.

Nudity would not be frowned upon in a post-revolution society.

Well do what you bloody wish with a plot of grass, I'd want a fenced in area where ever I'm living at so there will be doggies to roam around and poo and stuff.
Wage-slavery to get some kid to mow your lawn wouldn't exist, we wouldn't have money--it would all be gift economy. What are you going to do bribe him with a chocolate cake when they can get it anywhere they wanted to?

Yes unity with nudity, it can be called nudnity or something.

Yeah I like the clover idea. If anyone frequents gardening shops or whatever, now they advertise these crawling plants and flowers thay you can walk and play on, but don't grow fast. I think thats what I will do. Because of this discussion, google ads has a 'Secret of Zoysia' ad. Hilarious.

Its alot nicer to relax or play wiffle ball or something on a lawn than it is in a field.

It wouldn't be your pool, or her privacy, or your backyard - you wouldn't own anything. However - just because you have no personal property doesn't mean you can't have privacy. For the most part - why would some random person, in no relation to you or your wife, want to walk into the backyard your wife is sunbathing in topless? There would be no rational reason for that to happen. Just because people CAN do whatever they want in a communist society doesn't mean that they WILL - the reason to perform actions will always be there.
