View Full Version : Wage Laborer?
Hello,
I am a Communist/Socialist but I am not very wealthy. I have to start saving money to get a car. I got a job at a grocery store and get an hourly wage of $5.25
Does this make me a Capitalist? If so, How can WE survive?

Umm, no? Capitalists are only capitalists if they own a business and extract capital from people's labour.

No you don't own the means of production so you are not a capitalist. I used to think working for a corporation would make me a capitalist supporter. I was wrong though, some of us are going to have to work for corporations until the revolution, so working for a corporation is fine as long as you aren't exploiting people, which you won't be. In this world most people need money to survive, unless you want to be a lifestylist and drop out of society completely.
alright good. because smart people have been telling me that, but there anti communist, so...
thanks comrades

You are a wage slave. That means that you have to sell your labour to survive.
If you dont work you starve or live in the street. Welcome to the majority. We are called the working class or Proletariate (http://prole.info/), and we are the enemies of the Capitalist class(well atleast they are our enemies).
The Capitalist are those who make money and survive by owning the means of production(factories, warhouses, ect...). They pay us to create wealth for them. Profit is the excess wealth that we create that they dont pay us for.
They are usefull in society only in so far as they are wealthy and "own" stuff (or Capital, thus capitalists).
The hope of a communist revolution is that we will build a new kind of society where people dont own Capital. All working people will be equal and the economy will be run deomcratically by those who participate in it.
Unfortunately the word communism has been negatively associated with Bolshevism, Stalinism and other types of Dictatorships that claimed to be communist, but were infact State Run Capitalism (http://www.anarkismo.net/newswire.php?story_id=3311) equiped with a ruling class(made up of Party members and other beurocrats.
Anarchists (http://broadleft.org/anarchis.htm) and Anti Authoritarian Marxists(like Council Communists) are now doing the hard work of trying to return the communist movement into its original goal, a movement of the working class to liberate itself and build an equal and democratic society without bosses or masters of any kind, where the wealth of society is produced and used for the good of all the worlds people.
